World War Two Movies to Learn From

The epics that help us to realize the horrors of war.

There are a number of movies set during World War II, from which we can learn a lot. I have seen several World War II movies growing up. I would read a lot of books by Alistair McLean as well, set during World War II like “Guns of Navarone”, “Force 10 from Navarone” and “Where Eagles Dare”.

Some movies, like “Schindler’s List” and “Operation Daybreak”, are among the movies worth mentioning. Steven Spielberg made a brilliant movie called “Schindler’s List”, with his depiction of the cruelties and the atrocities of war. Looking at this movie would make you aware of the horrors of War and it should never be an option, even when Peace fails.

The old World War movies of the seventies and the eighties were more like adventure movies, where the god guys defeated the bad guys. Such movies were “Escape to Athena”, “V for Victory”, and “The Ipcress file”. Another such movie which is also a classic is the popular “Odessa File”.

Oliver Stone did a fantastic job directing “Platoon”, with an all star cast. While other World War II epics worth mentioning are “Thin Red Line”, “Hart’s War”, “Cross of Iron” and “The Longest Day”. Recently there was a great World War II series, called “Band of Brothers”, which was a well written storyline, working around factual accounts of the War.

War movies should help us to realize the atrocities of War and that by being aware of the horrors of War, we should try to live more peaceful lives, with our families, or society and our nations. With peace between all Nations, War will never ever occur and generations of young people will not need to lose their lives fighting wars. End all Wars now.

Never did I like wars. We should stop wars, for it is not the only solution to all of our problems. Great article.
    God Bless You!

Actually, they are all FICTION. And like the fiction of the Saturday Night Live wench that impersonated Sara Palin and said, “I can see Russia from my house.” and over 95% of the One Big A… Mistake America voters believed it was Palin, not the wench, these pieces of fiction are believed.

If you want to see the true picture of WW2 try Thirty Seconds over Tokyo, They were Expendable, Tora Tora Tora, or Manilla Calling. These were done before the Hollywood script writers went left…

Don’t forget “Valkyrie” which was just released on Blu-Ray! It’s interesting in that it helps dispel the notion that all Germans in World War Two were Nazis, and some actually did fight against Hitler and his minions.
