Inglorious Bastards
I will give an I depth review to the box office hit Inglorious Bastards.
Inglorious Bastards is number one in the U.S. box office for the weekend of August 21st 2009. This move had the highest per screen average of $12,023. It’s only been released for one week and has already made $380,070,437 total.
Inglorious Bastards has an intertwining plot:
The theme of the movie is revenge. The film is set in history alternate to World War Two, in which Hitler, Goring, Goebbels, and Bormann, the entire top leadership of Nazi Germany, attend a film premiere in Paris celebrating the exploits of a German sniper, who single handedly held down a town in Italy, that he was occupying for four days, and had managed to kill 300 American soldiers. Most of the films timeframe is set in early 1944, before the liberation of Paris, but after the D-Day landings.
The film fallows two separate attemps to assasinate Hitler by two incommensurable forces. One being the ‘Bastards’, a motley crew of Jewish-American soldiers out for revenge against the Nazis. The Bastards modus operandi is simply, when you kill a Nazi soldier, cut off his scalp, with orders to get 100 scalps each. In order to spread the terror of their attacks they let one German soldier to survive each encounter, however the Bastards would carve a swastika in the forehead of the freed German so that he could not forget or hide that they where a Nazi. The second force is Shosanna, known later as Emmanuelle Mimieux, the only survivior of a Jewish family massacred by a Nazi colonel nicknamed ‘The Jew Hunter’. Shosanna then plans her own revenge against the Nazis. The Bastards and Shosanna remain uninformed of eachother throughout the movie.
In this film they speak four diffrent languages, including English, French, German, and Italian. For every other language other than English subtitles are provited. The cast includes:
The Bastards
Brad Pitt – The 1st Lieutenant Aldo Raine aka ‘Aldo the Apache’. A thickly accented, fast talking, hillbilly from Tennessee, who puts together a team of eight Jewish-American soldiers.
Eli Roth – A Staff Sergent Donny Donowitz aka ‘The Bear Jew’. A huge and reprehensible ‘baseball bat-swinging Nazi hunter’ from Boston, known among Nazis as ‘The Bear Jew’. The role was originally cast for Adam Sandler who later declined due to scheduel conflicts with Funny People. Personally the scene where they introduce ‘The Bear Jew’ wouldnt of been as intimidating if Sandler was cast for the role as apposed to Roth.
Till Schweiger – As Hugo Stiglits, a bizarre and quiet German born psychopath. A former Feldwebel in the Wehrmacht, before he killed 13 SS soldiers, whom Aldo recruits to kill other Nazis.
Gedon Burkhard – As Corpral Wilhelm Wicki
B J Novak – As PFC Smithson Utivitch aka ‘The Little Man’
Omar Doom – As PFC Omar Ulmer
Samm Lavine – As PFC Gerold Herschberg
Paul Rust – As PFC Andy Kagan
Michael Bacall – As PFC Michael Zimmerman
Carlos Fidel – As PFC Simon Sakowitz
This is hands down Quentin Tarantino’s masterpiece. Tarantino wrote and directed this film. I give it five stars. “The Best Film Of The Year” -Montana
