Top 10 Scary Movies of 2010-2011

A Final Draft of the Top Ten Most Frightening, Creepy, Chilling Movies of 2011.

As a consistent movie goer and a big fan of scary movies, I present you with a top ten scary movies list of 2011, lets take it from the top!

#10

The Roommate (2011) | PG-13 | 91 Min.

Summary: College student Sara finds that her new roommate Rebecca has an obsession with her, which quickly turns violent.

Reaction: The Roomate (Rated 4.5 out of 10) was a movie that gave a couple chills here and there, but didn’t really give that spine tingling chill we all expected. The Movie was realistic but in a boring way, there certainly are creeps out there but we want to see more than that. Although a thumbs down, it is a scary movie nonetheless.

#9

Vanishing on 7th Street (2010) | Rated-R | 92 Min.

Summary: The population of Detroit has almost completely disappeared, but a few remain. As daylight disappears they realize that the Dark is coming for them.

Reaction: Vanishing on 7th Street (Rated 4.9 out of 10) was certainly a suspenseful movie. If your into those slow, mind revealing, suspenseful films that keep waiting and waiting for something scary to happen then this is the movie to get! Thumbs down regardless, it was way too slow from the beginning.

#8

Red Riding Hood (2011) | PG-13 | 100 Min.

Summary: Set in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf, a young girl falls for an orphaned woodcutter, much to her family’s displeasure.

Reaction: The Red Riding Hood (Rated 5.1 out of 10) was definitely not as scary as we expected, but was extremely sexual. I would have never thought the little red riding hood as a slut or whore bag. The movie was centralized around a girl who had harmonies raging inside of her and was sexually frustrated inside. Although its in the 5.0 range i’m still going to have to give this movie a thumbs down only because I took my little niece to this movie.

#7

Season of the Witch (2011) | PG-13 | 95 Min.

Summary: 14th-century knights transport a suspected witch to a monastery, where monks deduce her powers could be the source of the Black Plague.

Reaction: The Season of the Witch (Rated 5.4 out of 10) lacked a couple of details in its plot. It left bits and pieces hanging on some parts and confused the audience without a doubt. Nonetheless the enemy (devil) was certainly not what we were expecting. It was a awkward, outward manifestation of some weird ghoul ghost that needed to use the bathroom. Thumbs down on this movie because the director obviously didn’t care about how the devil looked.

#6

Priest (2011) | PG-13 | 87 Min.

Summary: A priest disobeys church law to track down the vampires who kidnapped his niece.

Reaction: Priest (Rated 5.7 out of 10) was a decent scary movie. Nothing special, but did have a lot to give including new looks to the demons and a new outlook on priests. The action was top notch and looked like a high budget film. Thumbs up!

#5

Paranormal Activity 3 (2011) | Rated-R | 85 Min.

Summary: In 1988, young sisters Katie and Kristi befriend an invisible entity who resides in their home.

Reaction: Like any good paranormal movie Paranormal Activity 3 (Rated 6.3 out of 10) was filled with multiple hit and run shots. The suspense in this movie kept the audience on its toes and delivered many hiccup scares. Although the plot was mystified a little too much, the movie captivates its audience and grabs their attention. Thumbs up for its addition to the Paranormal series.

#4

Final Destination 5 (2011) | Rated-R | 92 Min.

Summary: Survivors of a suspension-bridge collapse learn there’s no way you can cheat Death.

Reaction: A lot of good things from Final Destination 5 (Rated 6.3 out of 10). The gore, suspense, mind numbing tortures and overall a good scare. Final Destination 5 gave the audience what it was yearning for, it had all the basic essentials of the last 4 F.D’s and added some spice to the concoction. At this point there is no point of having a thumbs up or down, but I will give another thumbs up for this one because its trilogies.

#3

Scre4m (2011) | Rated-R | 111 Min.

Summary: Ten years have passed, and Sidney Prescott, who has put herself back together thanks in part to her writing, is visited by the Ghost face Killer.

Reaction: Scre4m (Rated 6.5 out of 10) has got to be the best of its predecessors. Scre4m offers a variety of horror, for example it has suspense, panic, pop ups and a much more. This movie deserves a place on the top 3 list and I have a feeling its going to stay on it for a long time.

#2

Insidious (2010) | PG-13 | 103 Min.

Summary: A family looks to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called The Further.

Reaction: Insidious (Rated 6.8 out of 10) is by far my favorite scary movie of the year. Insidious has its ups and downs but the tension and tight grip the movie had on the audience was undeniable. There were a couple of moments where it made people jump out their seats however halfway through the movie it slowly declined. The ghosts of the movie were slightly comedic but creepy nonetheless. The movie wasn’t the god of all scary movies but was a good one regardless.

#1

11-11-11 (2011) | UnRated | Untimed

Summary: An author travels to Barcelona to see his estranged brother and dying father, where he learns that his life is plagued by events that occur at 11:11.

I have heard very good things about this upcoming movie. The very fact that the movie is about 11-11-11 sends chills down peoples spine and is realistic without doubt. The 11:11 movement is centered on the emergence of that number in people’s lives that alerts them to angels or spirit guardians trying to communicate with them. Conspiracy theorists also point to the number 11’s involvement in historical events.
