Doctors are Supposed to Heal Not Kill

A review of the movie Asylum.

It all started when a group of college freshman are assigned rooms in the new dorm.  It was abandoned after it was an asylum in the 1930’s.  The doctor was killed and now it is said that he roams the halls looking for “fresh meat”.

First you see the doctor as someone from your past, the one that brought on your suffering.  Eventually the doctor appears and he says he will stop your suffering, but he destroys whatever part of you was leading to your suffering, and kills you.

Directed by David R. Ellis, this movie will keep you on the edge of your seats.  Asylum came out in 2007 (or the redirected version in 2008).  However it is definately a new and interesting type of scary movie.

The campus that was once an asylum is known as Richard Miller University

The newly made campus is where the group of students wake up the mad doctor who was roaming long after his death.

The six students that were beginning freshman all came from bad pasts.

  • The main character Madison witnessed the suicide of her father when she was younger, and then her brother a year before she started going to the college.
  • Maya was beat by an abusive boyfriend, therein losing trust in all people.
  • Holt was a drug addict who wasnt able to save his brother after drowning in a pool.  When the doctor gets to holt he tells him that drugs was not his suffering, guilt was.
  • Tommy; whom now seems obsessed with health and excercise was forced to eat by his mother until he became obese.
  • Ivy had a father who took advantage of her when she was younger
  • String was neglected as he child.  He had a lot of time to himself and he spent a lot of time on the computer learning.  He is the one that hacked them into the secluded part of the campus that was off limits.  His nickname became string after his obsession with strings.

Madison and Hold escaped from the campus and ran off into the woods where they where face to face with the doctor, ending the whole mess.

Did the doctor ever take anyone’s suffering away? In my opinion, I would have to say no.  However, I suggest to see the movie for yourself and decide.
