Behind Enemy Lines
This thriller with backdrop of war is directed by John Moore, released in 2001.
.It stars Gene Hackman (USN Rear Admiral Leslie Riegart) and Owen Wilson(Naval Flight Officer Lieutenant Chris Burnett) along with others like Olek Krupa (General Miroslav Lokar), Vladimir Mashkov (Sasha), Gabriel Macht (Jeremy Stackhouse).
The plot takes off with the planes of Stackhouse and Burnett hovering somewhere over Bosnia to track and shoot pictures of some suspicious target. While flying, their planes are shot down by the Serbian Forces led by Gen. Lokar. Both Stackhouse and Burnett manage to eject and land on the war torn territory. Stackhouse is injured and Burnett tries to establish contact on radio with his base headed by Admiral Leslie. Stackhouse is found by the Serbian force and is executed. Burnett manages to escape from there after witnessing the execution and explains the situation to Leslie over radio asking him to send help to extract him from there. From this point, the whole film revolves around Burnett’s struggle to keep himself alive from the enemy (Serb Forces and the sniper called Sasha led by General Miroslav Lokar) and somehow reach the extraction point to be rescued by his people.
The film’s script is compact and there are many thrilling moments in the film. Some scenes are very engaging and intense like the one where Burnett had to run through a track full of explosives blasting on both sides. The scene where he falls down while running from the forces and finds himself amidst a mass grave splattered with rotten human bodies all around him and had to hide under one such body to prevent from being detected by the forces was very engrossing and spine chilling. And lastly the climax was excellently shot and designed where he is rescued by his team. All the action sequences are shot and designed well through out the film.
The performance of every actor was good and they all suited the roles assigned to them. The cinematography of the film is excellently done to give the film raw and realistic look. The Background score is completely with the mood of the film.
