The idea to create a film about tea came about following much discussion on what we wanted to make a film about. The organic process of throwing ideas around the room and into brick wall after brick wall lead us to acquiesce upon the agreement to make the simplest film we could possibly make that allowed us to employ a varied palette of production techniques. Tea is the simplest of pleasures and the act of drinking a cup of tea in the morning is almost seen as ritual in the United Kingdom. After watching Craving Butts, made by a previous year’s bunch of students, we hit upon the idea of depriving our main character of his morning tea by having his flat mate use his last remaining tea bag to drive the simple narrative, and then, adding insult to injury, his cake would be missing too. Deciding upon our main narrative we were able to conceive ideas about who our audience would be and how we would undertake the making of the short film.

A student (Matt), living in shared accommodation that lives and breathes tea. He wakes up to a cup and doesn’t sleep without having one either. Similar to a nicotine or alcohol enthusiast; going the day or the night without tasting the delight of tea would send them into torturous spiral. Living in shared accommodation is no picnic however; the shares all have a good relationship and understanding the students love for tea. Respectfully if they ever use his tea bags, they understand to promptly return them and let him know they took from his collection.
