New York can be as alienating or exciting as the sane or troubled people who live, visit or work there. It is a place of oblivion, opportunity or ostracism for people in search of second chances. The film “Don’t Bother to Knock” looks compassionately but realistically at second chances which pan out for some but not for others.

As an avid reader I enjoyed the novel Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane. The novel takes readers on a psychological journey filled with criminal activity, suspense, and excitement. As the ending concludes all three hundred plus pages wrap up in a nice final chapter that brings all the unanswered questions to a shocking discovery.

The Rite is a movie based on a book by Matt Baglio about a priest, Father Gary Thomas, who goes into training in exorcism. The book is highly-rated and is an insider’s peek into territory that is more often depicted in horror movies than documentaries.
