Terminator Salvation

Writer’s point of view on the movie Terminator Salvation. May contain some spoilers.

One thing’s for sure. Not everyone can direct movies such as this. It has superb casting and direction, including cinematography. Terminator Salvation; it’s a movie that you can watch without even watching the other Terminator movies prior to this. The first scene starts off in the year 2003. We are introduced to the hero and he is Marcus Wright. After that, it is the present; Judgement Day, year: 2018. Fast forward and the world seems in a chaotic situation because machines are ruling and destroying any humans seen in its way.

Before I go further, let’s take note of some of the terms and key players of this movie:

Robots:

T-600 (vicious and deadly)

T-800 (the latest to be manufactured; very lethal and can see your weakness)

The T-600 can be found roaming the streets trying to find humans and capturing them to be exported to Skynet. Those that fight will not be spared and killed with no mercy. Objective: To catch and eliminate humans getting in the way.

The T-800 You will find these newly made machines nearing the end of the movie when John Connor stumbles upon them in the making.

The master key-player:

Skynet

Skynet is the organization responsible for the scheming of Marcus Wright. You will find out what really happens to him nearing the end of the movie. Skynet is the most scheming and inhumane organization ever. It capitalizes on robots in order to rule the world. And they keep on manufacturing soldier or killer robots named the T-600 and T-800. Skynet is also responsible for placing the robotic chip inside Marcus Wright and they have resurrected him so that he will be indestructible especially on the quest to kill John Connor. He is the hero from the 2003 first scene in the movie and the scene starts off in the prison when he is being coaxed to sign a document.

Resistance in the making:

Kyle Reese and the small kid

Kyle is the most important person in the movie and will be part of the movement of the Resistance at the end of the movie. He will be ‘knighted’ by John Connor. He’s at the #1 hitlist prior to John Connor, who falls in 2nd place. The robots are all programmed to search for him and they do that literally by scanning humans that are along the way.

Marcus Wright

I certainly think this guy rocks. And without him, John Connor would die. He is also responsible for helping to save Kyle and the small kid even though he seems very rough and tough on the exterior. Although he is half machine, he also has a heart of gold. He will atone for his sins and finally getting his 2nd chance of doing things right for himself. Along the movie, he will learn about himself, get to know a new found love (nice intro on how they meet and I like it.) The charming lady is part of John Connor’s Resistance Team and she trusts Marcus with her life and thinks that he has a strong and kind heart.

John Connor

He is the Resistance Leader. He’s the one that people respect and he will be seen on some scenes speaking on his radio ‘walkie talkie’, broadcasting his message and news on the latest development of Skynet in general. He gives instructions and those that are close to him are safe. He reaches out to people supporting the resistance through this medium the whole time and whoever gets this network will follow his instructions.

Small kid with big hair

He’s very brave and is always seen with Kyle. Not only is he charming (and despite his muteness), he is also very helpful and certainly intelligent. He will be useful at crucial times, as you will see in the movie. I call him Kyle’s sidekick and a friend to Marcus too.

Now for my opinion…

Why do I think this movie deserves 10 popcorn ratings:

This movie has heart, compassion, action sequences which are great, genius storyline and I heard some teary retorts from the audience too. It is literally machines versus humans and the chance of survival is thin, but what makes the human spirit applaudable is their desire to win the war and to survive. It’s a difficult war, but they dare to die trying. So my verdict is that this movie totally rocks to the max! What more can you ask for; it’s all here. If anyone finds this movie boring, I won’t know. However, I feel that Terminator Salvation will keep you glued to the screen from beginning till the end. It is deeply moving, period…
