Star Wars Saga Goes 3D – Lucas’ Next Surprise

George Lucas announces plans to release all six episodes of the Star Wars saga in 3D.

Here’s one for the Star Wars fanatics. If you thought  you’ve seen the last of the Stars Wars flicks with episode III “Revenge of the Sith” think again.  George Lucas, producer of the Star Wars saga, has just announced  that Lucas Film Ltd. will release all six films in theaters in 3D starting with “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” in 2012. All six episodes will be converted into 3D using the latest technology and special effects wizardry  by  Industrial Light and Magic also owned by Lucas.

We’ve seen many films  converted from 2D to 3D in the past that hardly can be considered exciting. But visual effects supervisor John Knoll promises the next release of the films to be a new experience. He mentions “getting good results is a matter of taking the time and getting it right.”

Star Wars saga began in 1977 with it’s first story release “A New Hope” which was actually the fourth episode in a six part story plot.  The story tells about a young hero by the name of Luke Skywalker who spearheads the quest to save the universe from an evil empire.  As the first release did extremely well at the box office, this was followed by five other episodes making up the entire Star Wars saga which took 33 years to complete.

The following is the complete chronological order of the  Star Wars films  which is to be released in 3D:

1. Episode I: The Phantom Menace

2. Episode II: Attack of the Clones

3. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

4. Episode IV: A New Hope

5. Episode V: The Empire Strike Back

6. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

Here’s a bit of star wars trivia:

1. In 1973, an unknown director named George Lucas approached Universal studios to see if they were interested in a film called, “Star Wars”. Universal turned him down which was probably  one of the biggest mistakes ever made by a studio.

2. In the 1977 film Star Wars, hero Luke Skywalker was originally named Luke Skykiller. The name was changed on the first day of filming.

3. “Polemistus chewbacca” and “Polemistus yoda” are actually real scientific names  given to two types of wasps.

Obviously I’m a Star Wars fanatic.
