Star Trek 2009

A quick review.

As somebody whom is not, what is often referred to as a ‘Trekkie’, I decided to watch this film on the basis of rumours that it was a film for everybody, that and the pull of knowing that the fantastic actor Zachary Quinto played the confused half-vulcan Spock! Indeed the hearsay was not incorrect and the film did not disappoint. Set prior to Star Trek: The Original Series, this film explains the bringing together the crew of the Enterprise, the close relationship of Spock and Kirk and individual character backgrounds, which are quite intriguing. If there is one thing this film has perfectly created, it must be a harmonious balance between suiting a wide audience and staying as true as possible to the Star Trek Franchise.

The storyline was fairly strong; The classic battle of our Heroes against a seemingly unstoppable force (the Romulans, from the future), with our Protagonist battling against the odds for his people, who, through his own fault, currently ignore his demands to be heard; the character of Captain James Tiberius Kirk is one which evolves from almost an immature adolescent, to a newly promoted Captain, who has gained the respect of his colleagues and peers. To elaborate further detail upon the plot would be to ruin an experience of true entertainment, and so I must only say it is well constructed and thought out, with the right amount of background information needed involved (not an over-encroaching look into the character’s past’s), balanced with entertaining action and spectacular visuals. The most important thing about this film is its Fun. The chemistry between the actors is mesmerising and the comical elements are half of what makes it a more widely accepted, wider audience based film; two notable characters in this field are ‘Scotty’ played by the magnificent Simon Pegg and ‘Pavel Chekov’ played by Anton Yelchin.

If there is any advice I can give anyone at the moment, it is to watch this film. If in doubt it can give you a lift, if bored, it can provide excitement, if you are wondering which film should be the next to watch for you, LOOK NO FURTHER!

I hope this review has been helpful to you, it is merely a quick insight to the film and someone’s view on it. I do plead that you go and enjoy this film!
