Sci-Fi Parodies: What We Lack

So much to laugh about, so little people to make it happen.

What is it that makes them an easy target? The idea of what makes them is because they’re grounded into our pop culture awareness from any given age. And so we get a little heads up on it and then when we’re older we begin to play around with ideas present in any series like Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who or Halo….when I used series I didn’t mean just TV and film, I meant anything within the Sci-Fi genre…books and all.

So we get parodies of Sci-Fi stuff a lot, Halo has it with Red Vs Blue, not a parody in the sense of the word but takes to questioning little parts of the game itself while also presenting a huge stage for its own epic storyline that has evolved from humble beginnings. Doctor Who has had enough or not quite enough when compared to Star Trek and Star Wars, but still has a few to be named without question (Red Noses Day 1999 with a certain Richard E “Charming” Grant and many others) or some I rather not mention for it being more of a cheap laugh then a true intricate piece of well timed humour. Star Wars and Star Trek have had their fair share of parodies with most either a good laugh from the likes of Family Guy, Robot Chicken, The Simpsons and even something far out featuring Tim Allen (Weird!).

We get all the above with ease yet now I’ve come to conclusion that one Sci-Fi series (Remember this encompasses the genre) has a lack of parodies or reference with it being “Dune”. Surprising to think a book that has so much hasn’t yet experienced someone taking the piss out of it. The move gave opportunities to make fun of the fact Sting was one of the ginger headed people or Mentats had insanely large eyebrows. The whole film had parts where you could completely screw it up into hilarity. The idea to think Dune is a Sci-Fi epic comparable to “Lord of the Rings” is something of a puzzling thought…..even more on how little it has been presented with only one film (Incoherent and changed a lot from the book, but still worth a viewing for the cast, set design, costumes and soundtrack) and two miniseries (I’ve watched the miniseries to only find myself loathing them out how they lacked a aura). So with the mention of what Dune lacks I will take it upon myself to begin parodies scripts to take the piss out of the scenes from the film and book…..I might read the six other books someday but I’ll think about that.

Actually, weirdly when you see Sci-Fi parodies you never see Dune even referenced to any extent *Sad face*…so people please begin to find the humour of this epic Sci-Fi novel!

Thought of the Day: July 23rd:

Oh no fucking way! The weather has actually cleared up today to show off blue sky in Frances….such a wonderful sight to be mentioned. Considering the Meteo has promised clear skies for the last four days with only rain being present, nothing better than a clear sky to give inspiration with my writing.

Let us not forget Space Balls, a Mel Brooks spoof. Everything was exagerated and ridiculous. Seems like the classics are an easy target no matter whether a book, movie, or series. Great article.

Check out my first and recently released novel, Long Journey to Rneadal. This exciting story is a romantic action adventure in space.
