James Cameron’s Avatar : a Record Breaker Uses Old Formula!

Avatar is a recently released movie by James Cameron, an award winning director who directed Titanic. Here is a short review with my rating for the movie!

This is an astounding movie directed by one of the most famous award winning director James Cameron. James Cameron has directed the movie Titanic, which was the most grossing movie ever which earned more than $1.2 billion worldwide. Titanic also received international acclaim and won 11 oscars. This director has directed movies such as Terminator, Aliens, Terminator II, etc. Now the director has returned with another winner, Avatar.

Avatar Trailer

Avatar is a science fiction movie which released in December. Avatar is believed to be the most expensive movie ever developed with a budget of about $400 million. This movie is on an entirely new level comparable with other movies which uses much advanced technology compared to other movies. The idea was first conceived around 15 years ago by James Cameron but was shelfed due to insufficient technological developments in cinema. Now finally this long-awaited movie has been released on a grand scale. The movie is offered in 2 types, 2D or 3D. I loved the 3D experience as it is the first movie I have watched which actually makes me think that the place is real. I was sucked into the world of Pandora with their lush green environment and its species of natives including the 10 foot tall, blue skinned humanoid Na’vi. The main attraction of Avatar is its imagery. Avatar used one of the most advanced technology in cinemas today to implement 3D which makes the movie stand out. Avatar has the best CGI to generate the best environmental effects I have seen in movies which adds to the experience. We can see one of the best environments with floating mountains, green forests filled with animals, nice blue unpolluted sky, etc.

The Na’vi, the blue skinned natives similar to humans were captured in a beautiful. Due to the experience of James Cameron and the efficiency of the technical department, these natives appear realistic and a part of our world somewhere far away on the planet Pandora. The emotions of these humanoids are portrayed perfectly and the audience can easily forget that these creatures have been created by the use of technology. The tribes of Na’vi along with the human settlement are the main teams in this movie.

According to me storytelling is marvelous and the story incorporates many real life problems of humanity. The movie revolves around the new life of Jake Sully, an ex-marine who has been paralyzed below his waist and has joined the Avatar programme to take place instead of his brother who had studied to join this programme. This happens after he has travelled for years to come to the planet Pandora to search for resources due to the present energy crisis. In this programme, the selected humans are neurally connected (nervous system) to a hybrid of humans and Na’vi. The goal is to form a truce with the Na’vi as to exploit natural resources on the planet Pandora. Other characters also enter the fray along with Colonel Quaritch, the gung-ho officer whose only interest is in military and the one who wants to destroy the Na’vi using sheer force. Also as an important character is Dr. Grace Augustine, the main scientist behind the Avatar programme. Along with these are the blue skinned Na’vi with Neytiri, the main female character in the movie. Jake Sully continues with the programme and mingles with the team and the Na’vi people until he comes upon a choice which will change him forever. The movie has been described similarly to many precedent situations such as the coming of pioneers to America to drastically change the lives of the Native Americans, which in this case is represented by the humans coming to Pandora affecting the Na’vi!

Most of the aspects of the movie are strong accept some weak dialogues in some parts which are mostly in the English parts while the Na’vi language is well-developed. The movie contains some inexplicable changes in areas but the movie is pretty descriptive and entertaining.

This movie is one of the best movies to come out and one of the best by the director of Titanic but the question is if the movie would be able to beat its 1997 predecessor in high budget films. We yet have to see if Avatar (the more expensive, contemporary movie) would be able to earn as many oscars and perform as good financially than Titanic. Well not mentioning that this movie is binding and will keep you glued to your seat, even if it is long. You should try to watch this in 3D because as I said before, the main experience comes out with it. The movie is a tad longer than other movies as Avatar runs for around 163 minutes but the length is worth it.

I would love to watch this movie again and hopefully would. Finally my rating, I would give this movie a massive 4.5 out of 5. Come on! The movie is worth the price of your ticket! Go watch it and enjoy!

3-D techniques add dimension to any movie. Looks to be an exciting sci-fi/action/adventure epic. A very good review Lasermaster123 :-)

I wonder when the sequel to Avatar is going to come out. It is gonna take pretty long time though. I wonder if it will be as successful as it its predecessor, Avatar. The movie is also only good watching once (according to me) but that one time experience is enough for a LONG time.
