Analysing the Pictures From the 2009 Star Trek Movie
I´d like to share my in depth analysis of the recently published pictures from the movie.
Note before we begin:
You can have a look at all pictures mentioned in this article here
The Bridge
The first thing I thought when I saw this was that it looks very “Star Trek The Motion Picture”. But on second thought its also very different from anything we have seen before. It´s hard to judge from one image, but the bridge seems to be much bigger then it used to be. The additional screens that used to be above the backward bridge stations in the Original Series have been turned into a band of flat screens. Another recognisable element that´s there is the railing behind the command chair. At least one of the doors seems to be in a very different place (next to the two transparent “room dividers”). The over all color scheme of the screens and consoles is blue, but everything might turn red during red alert. They have added a table to Kirk´s right which might be some kind of additional navigation device…or a secretary table.
The Uniforms
The uniforms are probably the only thing that didn´t change much at all. The overall look is the same, although they´re now using a black undershirt. The gold uniform seems to be the same as always, the red and blue variants seem less bright. The rang stripes on the sleeves are still there but they are now silver instead of gold.
Nero
He´s easily recognisable as a Romulan. A notable change is that his ear looks based on the vulcan ones but still very different. Is the tattoo a common Romulan thing, or something special to nero?
The USS Kelvin
We haven´t seen any pictures of the Enterprise exterior besides the “under-construction” view from the teaser. The close up of the Kelvin makes it seem that the design is actually very close to the one used in the TOS-era movies. I prefer the original pearl white to the darker hull color they are using.
The Bridge Crew
Its not easy to comment on the crew from the little material we have. Quinto as Spock really looks a lot like the young Nimoy.
Overall Impression
So far I´m very impressed. It could have been much worse. If those few pictures are any indication then its true what the production crew keeps repeating like a mantra: “Its true to the original but new and different”.
