Everyone will be buzzing over how much Twilight made regardless of the fact that the Twilight movies are terrible movies. But I can’t completely blame the directors. Look at the material they have to go off of. The Twilight books are awful pieces of literature that look like they were written by a 5th grader. That explains why Steven King called Stephanie Meyer a terrible writer. Also, ever notice there are no famous female film directors? Or at least ones you’ve heard of? That’s because females don’t have a good eye for film.
I’ve come to the conclusion that women have no taste in movies. Sure, it’s really easy for women to call men nerds for liking epic movies like The Dark Knight and Lord of the Rings. But they only call men nerds because they don’t know how else to defend their bad tastes. Women don’t have large brain capacity when it comes to art. The acting in these Twilight movies is attrocious, and Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart talk in these really boring, monotone voices with no sense of excitement or thrill. You can tell they are very bored with the material. Kristen Stewart always looks like she’s tired or bored. It is hard to tell which. Honestly, if women want to see a guy take off his shirt for half the movie, just go look at male porn on the internet. You may even see a penis or two if you search on Google hard enough.
What sickens me is that there are so many better romantic movies out there for women. There are plenty of movies that are great romance stories, and yet women keep going to this mediocre piece of trash Twilight series. Yeah it’s so romantic that this girl keeps putting herself out there to get violently assaulted by these vampires just because she wants to be loved. Jeez, isn’t that how things like rape happen in real life? Is that what this movie is teaching young girls? That it’s romantic to be stalked by creepy guys?
I always felt in America that nowadays people only settle for mediocrity. They only settle for below average. All these young girls decided not to read books until this really horribly written book came out. To all you mothers out there, you’re doing a fine job at raising the bar for your daughter when it comes to reading. Instead of having her read good literature, you’re completely lowering her expectations of writing. All these little girls will want to write like Stephanie Meyer, and we’ll get a huge surplus of garbage novels.
Not only are the characters in Twilight not interesting, but the message is terrible. So basically Kristen Stewart’s character is a nobody unless she is a property of this vampire or a property of that werewolf guy. What a great way to let women know they aren’t anybody unless they are property of a man.
Anyways, Twilight is lowering the expectations of what is considered quality in film and literature. It’s killing two birds with one stone. If you want your kids to read, there’s so many books out there to get them reading. Enough of this hollywood hype machine. They just want to oversexualize your kids when they are 13 year olds so your daughters grow up to be whores when they are 18. Not that I mind, cause when your daughters turn 18, I wouldn’t mind stalking them like the vampires they read in those Twilight books and Twilight movies. Now I bet you read that and thought, “Wow what a creepy dude”. Really? I’m creepy but you’re okay with your kids watching movies/reading books that tells girls if you get stalked, then its romantic. You’re an A+ parent for sure.

Wow.
This is really sexist.
Am I wrong? I thought that we have gotten past that century.
“But they only call men nerds because Women don’t have the brain capacity to understand fine filmmaking.”
That’s funny, because you obviously don’t have the brain capacity to write a decent article, use correct grammar and spelling, or research what you’re writing about (it’s Stephenie, not Stephanie).
Just because men and women like different things doesn’t mean that one’s taste is greater or lesser than the other. They’re just different.
I think you’re wrong. There are plenty of women who dislike Twilight and know that it’s badly written and sexist. But Twilight is aimed at a female audience, and I think a lot of guys are turned off by the plot or think it would be wrong of them to enjoy it so they just avoid it. But since women don’t have a reason to be embarrassed by it more of them have read it and watched the movies, and because there’s a larger population of them reading and watching, then naturally there would be a bigger population of women who like it. Also, there are plenty of men who enjoy this series, so if women don’t have the “brain capacity” to enjoy good stories, then certain men don’t either, and you can’t say that just “some” men don’t have the brain capacity and “all” women don’t.
I agree. I could barely make it through the first movie. I just hate that this crap gets so much hype when there are many alternatives that deserve it much more.
” Yeah it’s so romantic that this girl keeps putting herself out there to get violently assaulted by these vampires just because she wants to be loved. Jeez, isn’t that how things like rape happen in real life? ”
..and isn’t that called “blaming the victim”?
and another thing, what’s wrong with girls going to see a movie to look at a couple of nice pieces of eye candy? Isn’t that the same thing as men sitting online looking at porn? (which by the way is a much more profitable industry than the stupid twilight series).
So shut up, everyone has their vices. It’s just that right now half of America’s teenage girls happen to have the same one, so were being forcefully exposed to it. It happens.
Im a 12 YEAR OLD GIRL and HATE twilight…and there stupid TEENYBOPPER fans…P.S Edward is ugly as f&#k

Ha ha, I’m a woman and I have to agree with you. I love The Dark Knight one best movies ever and ha ha I’m watching Lord of the Rings now as I type this. My all time favorite trilogy. I also like Star Wars and trying to get into Star Trek. I hate romance movies, yuck. I’m sick of Twilight, I wish all of these teeny boppers and 40 year old soccer moms would pick up the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, now those are really great vampire books. You would never find Lestat glittering in the sunlight. Atleast JK Rowling put thought into her characters and made her female characters strong and not dependent on men.
I’m goinmgng to have to agree with others that are saying that tis is a vast over generalization and blantantly sexist. I’m a teenage guy and I read twilight. Certainly it won’t be taught in 10th grade english class or be required reading in 50 years, but it is what it is. It’s entertaining. However, with that being said, the movie was just bad. Poor dialogue, acting, directing, cinematography, etc. It’s simply a cashcow and movies will be coming out every 9 months and they’ll rain in big fat check.
Howeve ri would have to disagree with the over sexual nature of the films. Sure it’s just a cheap gimmick to put in attractive actors in too play the roles but the story itself isn’t that way. It’s the opposite. It’s pure pro abstinence you must protect your body blah blah despite the fact that 95% of the parents who let their kids watch this movie had sex before they were married
Holy shit. I’m not even going to read this article the title is so offensive. It’s funny to me how often men who complain about women having poor taste in films prefer the “nerd” genre…as in the same men who can’t get laid..as in this sounds like a personal attack against women because you’re pissed they’d rather spend two hours watching an attractive guy on screen then listen to your whiny virgin ass. Dark Knight was a great film, not revolutionary. Lord of the Rings was terribly boring with little substance in ratio to screen time, only redeeming quality was the visual effects. Epic? Ha! Hardly. As a woman I say YOU have poor taste in film. If you’re going to make the argument that you have superior taste then at least illustrate that. Don’t name drop Dark Knight. Why don’t you try some Fellini? Some Godard? Some Kubrick? Then we’ll talk.
And P.S. MEN are the reason crap like Transformers and Jennifer’s Body are spewed out so just crawl back under your rock and go play with your lonely self you sexist pig.
i agree that the twilight movies are horrible and that SOME women have bad taste in movies but not all. Overall i agree with most of what you’ve said regarding the twilight stuff
Twilight is terrible. Those “things” aren’t vampires. Vampires aren’t pale pretty boys that glitter in the sun. They’re supposed to be creepy. I don’t understand how people like this shit. All of the girls are like “OMG I’M GOING TO MARRY EDWARD CULLEN” or “OMG I’M GOING TO HAVE ROBERT PATTINSON’S BABIES.”
GET A LIFE. This series sucks major ass.
Thanks a lot Stephanie Meyer for brainwashing people into enjoying this garbage. You destroyed the vampire genre.
I am a teenage girl, and despite the despicably sexist and ignorant generalization denoted by the title of this article, I still decided to read it.
But my resolve started to shatter when I read this: \”Also, ever notice there are no famous female film directors? Or at least ones you’ve heard of? That’s because females don’t have a good eye for film.\”
Last time I checked, most people had heard of Sophia Coppola. She\’s a famous, critically acclaimed female director who has a good eye for film (that is, if you consider Academy Award nominations and across-the-board praise from critics to mean anything). Lost in Translation and the Virgin Suicides are brilliant films, enjoyed by both men and women.
I\’m also pretty sure that most people are familiar with The Piano, also directed by a woman, Jane Campion, who clearly had a brilliant vision and \”good eye for film\” (once again, only if you think across-the-board critical acclaim and prestigious honors like the Academy Award for Directing indicate anything). Perhaps she is not a household name, but I think that proves that your argument does not make any sense. A director does not have be someone you\’ve \”heard of\” in order to be a director with \”good eye for film.\” Most people have never \”heard of\” Ingmar Burman and Clarence Brown, but both received multiple Award nominations for directing and thus could be considered to have a \”good eye.\”
Also,
You\’re pretty pathetic for choosing The Dark Knight and Lord of the Rings, two brilliant and well-made films in the comic book/epic/fantasy categories to represent the entire genre of films associated with male “nerds.” Those are two exceptional films that do not apply to your twist-of-words generalization. It’s pretty pathetic that you associated these particular films strictly with male fans, when the blatant truth of the matter, is that both men and women played instrumental roles in making those films such successes. I have never thought of a man as a nerd for liking The Dark Knight or Lord of the Rings, and maybe that\’s because, as a female, I thoroughly enjoyed those films as well and could appreciate their brilliance. I also enjoyed going to see them in theaters with some of my many female friends who loved the movies as well (and, for the record, have definitely never been considered nerds and would also never call a guy a nerd for liking those films). We enjoyed Lord of the Rings and the Dark Knight because they were great. Period.
I enjoy the Twilight novels and movies because I accept them for what they are, entertainment. Everything you choose to spend money on for entertainment does not have to have some incredible artistic merit to it. The billion dollar porn industry, which men shell out big bucks to support, proves that the idea of entertainment for entertainment’s sake, all notions of quality aside, exists very much on both sides of the gender divide.
At least the series shows a little bit more creative integrity than the countless sports movies that churn out the same clichés year after year and are yet so beloved by male audiences.
Furthermore, how dare you insult mothers for not encouraging their daughters to read good literature? Mother who have recommended books to me have given me such suggestions as East of Eden by Steinbeck, Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer, and Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie. Also, last time I checked, polls by the organizations like the American Library Association indicate that reading books for purposes other than school is much much much more popular amongst girls than boys.
Any mother, including yours, would be disgusted to read this article. In fact, I’m sure your mother would not only be disgusted by your article, but also ashamed of you.
Good luck finding a date. You\’ll desperately need it.

Very nice article.
Thats really all I have to say, I see some sexism but it isn’t too over the top.
The article has good structure and brings up some fine points.
Oh and to “April”, nobody gives a shit about your spelling/grammar corrections. Seriously, the punctuation is fine, spelling is fine, grammar is fine. Find me an example with isn’t SOMEONES NAME! If you were to correct someone everytime they spelt a name incorrectly then insult them because of it. You’d be what I call a total fucktard.
Oh and another thing.
Stop posting these massive walls of text. Half the people who read this article won’t read the comments. They’ll see the article, think “Oh wow this is good, really good” Or “SEXISM BWARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR”
Then they’ll go back to google or whatever the fuck they were doing, or they’ll skip the comments and write one of their own.
Just read the Article, if you don’t like it, write a small comment, don’t go over the top. All it does is show that you have no life.
Caroline, I’ve never heard of Sophia Coppola, and I’m a teenage girl as well. What does that tell you?
zipp it Caroline.. twilight eats dick
Caroline, you\’re a fat chick aren\’t you?
I agree. Twilights such shit and it sucks dick… like totally.
So you think Kathryn Bigelow is a bad director? You think Strange Days is a bad movie????
You might think Twilight sucks. Fair enough. But guys get off on porn and girls get off on hot guys acting all “possessed” by their emotions. It works when Keanu Reeves is cast in any romantic movie or any other hot star. But calling women tasteless in general is way too below the belt. Are you sure you are not just happy your post is selling? Oh, I bought the bait too. Well, done…
Lets face facts. the person that wrote this piece of trash is a sexist pig. I love the dark knight and the lord of the rings but i also love twilight. Just because your narrow minded personality has no talent does not give you the right to call women bad parents for letting their daughters read the twilight series. I do agree that Edward is a stalker, but smeogel went around strangeling people. Now hurry along, you are probably late for your book burning.
I’m a mother of two teenage girls and I encourage their interest in Twilight. They need to learn that Bella is a good role model for them, and they need to put the same focus and attention into their boyfriends. A woman’s role is to be a servant to her husband. Getting away from values like this is the reason this country is in such trouble! We’ve got a black president because of nonsense like women’s lib.!!!
I think you’re article is sexist. If you are going to diss Twilight you might as well diss every romance novel out there. Cuz, guess what.. they are all pretty darn crappy when it comes to the writing and storyline of the novel. Women just want to be loved by some handsome man as terrible as that sounds. Yea the whole stalking part in Twilight creeped me out when I read the books. As for the Epic movies you mentioned guys likeing… guess what women like them too. I mean, guys aren’t going to like Twilight because basically it’s a romance series, and all romance novels are cheesy in some way shape or form.
And saying women have no taste is just low. It’s not true, it’s the guys who think women are idiots (like yourself apparently) that are the true idiots.
Yepe the sexism argument has alaready ben pulled out.
Remember everyone, you are entitled to your own opinion no matter how stupid it may be.
Caroline the only reason Sofia is popular is because of her father.
If Francis Ford Copola didn’t make such a big picture like The Godfather, nobody would know who the fuck Sofia Copola is.
your sexist…
ZOMG!!! DIZ R TEH SECKSIST!!
Truth hurts, doesn’t it ladies?
I’m a woman and I totally hate Twilight! But I’m not affected even your article is sexist, I respect your opinion. Actually this is a good one you’ve caught many readers.
Yes, Twilight is basically soft porn for teens (not women). And I would agree with you, it’s not great literature, or a great film. To be crass, I thought it sucked. And I’m assuming you’re just trying to get a rise out of people with your article, so I’ll just skip over all the racist stuff, etc., that everyone else has already commented on. Just wanted to point out that “women” and “teenage girls” are not interchangable. Women are not the ones raving over Twilight, immature girls are. Over and out.
Wow.
Great that you want to express your opinion, but next time, provide an actual argument (a valid one?) so your readers don’t have to skim through the passage, JUST to comment this how they feel about the issue.
Never seen Twilight, have no opinion. I think your article is biased, but it is your article. I’m sure you are getting views & comments from both sides.
Well written article. Definitely worth a chuckle or two, especially at the comments section. You make some interesting points as well. I tip my hat to you sir.
well interesting points on the mediocrity of the films but they appeal to the human fibre..desire fr love ..especially among women. but some statements were kinda sexist…a
great artcile..got me thinking but didnt like the sexist statements
Um interesting, lots of points I could raise having studied film/creative writing/eng lit at uni. you have good and bad points in this.
wrong that women are not good at the arts, statistically women are more adpet in the arts due to there being more right brained than us males.
right that twighlight is terribly written.
what about buffy, she loves the vamps.
the whole rape thing is wrong… think before commenting on something as delicate as that.
wrong that women dont have an eye for film.
you chose 2 terrible references to guy nerd films blockbusters apeal to everyone, what about Bmovies like nightwatch, or oldies like drunken master or mortal kombat.
you dnt make reference to any good romance novels so i guess you dont know any.
good job on raking in the readers/viewings.
right about some of the acting, I cant stand bad acting.
anywho watever your opinion of twiglight is watch this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=41OixAKZQWQ
the sexist slant on this article is ridiculous, but it’s a fact among intelligent, informed movie/literary critics that twilight is trash.
Lol, the funny thing is Stephanie Meyer has made million dollar out of her best selling books and movies while you Mr. High Taste, still sitting your butt here collecting pennies! You’re just jealous!
Hahaha! You got a lot of angry women dissing your article! I agree that Twilight is trash. The success of the film is proof that there are millions of less intelligent human beings in the planet.
well of course there are many good female directors – however – re: this kind of celluloid junk and rubbish series of books –
time to call a spade a spade – dont know WHY anyone would want to watch this gargantuan trash – when there is the likes of there is the likes of – ‘Interview with the vampire’ – or hell even the “Lost Boys’ Lol – (saw it recently on TCM – so somebody up there must think its well made)
You don’t like Twilight? Fine, whatever. This is by no means an original opinion, but you are allowed to express it. But this article is shockingly sexist, and a complete generalization. Low brain capacity? Let me guess, you also believe we should stay in the kitchen, right? What, with our tiny brains, how could we possibly function in a man’s world? I’ve never heard any girl call a guy a geek for liking The Dark Knight or Lord of the Rings. Those two movies are generally accepted, liking them doesn’t make you a geek. Romance movies are geared toward women, just as action movies are geared toward men. Transformers has Megan Fox running around with her breasts falling out of her shirt, and Twilight has men taking off their shirts for no apparent reason. That’s how it is. I can enjoy mindless action movies just as much as any guy, I’m certainly not complaining about them, so why can’t “geeks” just accept that the same goes with romance/Twilight? Maybe they might even enjoy the movies.
Phooey!
Opinions are a “dime a dozen.” Thank you for expressing yours.
I disagree with your opinion. That’s okay.
There are some movies I’ve seen I wonder what the appeal is other’s that people like are worth my viewing again. The same is true of poetry. There are those who like what we write while others condemn. Go figure. To each his/her own.
I’m looking forward to seeing “New Moon.” I have read the books and they appeal to me. I have seen many cheesy movies. Robin hood men in Tight,The Three Amigos, Princess Bride, just to name a few. I remain undecided about Princess Bride, I will have to view it a few more times to decide if I like it or not.
I stand as a mutual party, neither a fan of the series nor an enemy.
Once this book blew up, the equal parts of fans and enemies have arisen. People seemed forced to pick a side, and it is dividing everyone. Had this series not blown up as it has, you wouldn’t give a damn whether people liked it or not. The thing that has made you hate this series is how much people like it and the fact that you cannot escape the hype and the hate. You cannot ignore the fact that you only care because you hear about it constantly.
Have you even read the book? I read them, and while I agree that it isn’t the best stuff out there, it hardly deserving of “look like they were written by a 5th grader”.
While I agree that the actors are horrible, their voices are bored and their acting shows the same, I believe they were picked more for their looks than anything else. Kristen was picked as Bella because Bella looks very average (as does Kristen, very average) and Rob is supposed to look perfect. That is a pretty big pair of shoes to fill. I believe they did as well as could be expected.
Of a guessed 100% of the country that has heard about the series, an estimated 50% will be a fan, and 50% will dislike it or frankly, not give a shit. I can assure you that if people like you stop posting things like this about it, it will go away that much faster. New Moon’s movie is out, Eclipse is supposed to come out in June, and Breaking Dawn should not be far behind.
Put it to bed.

The twilight series rulz; im a huge fan, o and im not a woman…=p
I think that the real answer to here is that people need to stop believing what their told is a good movie and actualy make the decision themself. sex aside, this is a HUGE problem in the world. people just jump on the bandwagon and never even get a chance to see a comparison to thier ill conceived obsessive compulsuve pop culture centraled abysmal films theyre told are great.
Im going to have to point out that lord of the rings and dark night were cinimatical masterpeices liked by every sort of person.
dude “nerds” like the southpark movie, superbad and transformers… which can all be directly compared to what youre calling a chick movie, horrible, proving gender provides no basis for this argument.
I’m sorry if you dont like twilight, join the club.
Holy sexist, misogynistic rant, Batman!
Pull your head out of your a$$ and ask a few girls why a guy like Edward is held up as a male ideal – primarily because of the respect he shows for women.
Watch and learn, grasshopper. Watch and learn.
Hardly a proper comparison pitting Twilight against Dark Knight and LoTR. Those films are hardly macho, and LoTR especially had a HUGE female following. Twilight would be better compared to knuckleheaded male films like Transformers II or Fast and the Furious. Let’s see you defend those.
Oh and it’s not original and clever to join the herd and criticise Twilight and its fans. it would be more original and clever to try and actually understand rather than dismiss its pleasures.
Bravo, you certainly got plenty of attention. Not all women have bad taste in movies, and not all men have an “eye for film”. And outside of Twit-lit not all teen vampire romances are garbage. L.J. Smith for one (and I’d like to point out that she not only did vampire/human romance first, she also did it best) wrote excellent teen paranormal romance that never once went to a sexual place. So you did a great job irritating a lot of people into reading this so-so sexist article. I’m going to say I liked it…just because you did such a great job of drawing me in. I hope you really are intelligent enough to use this as an attention seeking ploy. If not and you honestly believe half the crap you spouted off…tsk tsk.
Steven King?? or Stephen King!?! LOLS
Well aren’t you a dick? I happened to love the Dark Knight movie – and actually have the comic (best comic ever written by the way) right beside me.
I personally detest the way the books are written, and it is SO WRONG of you to generalise. 17 myself, I fall into the age group that these books are aimed at but they aren’t the only books I’ve recently read – a few being:
A Clockwork Orange (bloody brilliant)
Bill Bryson’s ‘Shakespeare’
Catcher in the Rye etc….
oh and the comic, ‘League of Extraordinary Gentlemen vol2′
Do I now sound like a complete airhead twihard??? Uh no…and I don’t care what you say, I’m still watching the film, rather than going to find phalli images on google.
Dick.
I don’t know what Twilight is, I guess it hasn’t made it over the Atlantic yet (and that sounds like a good thing), but you can see the same thing happening with books. The women’s trashy romance novels market is huge and yet even the women who read them freely admit that the quality is terrible.
I think we have to accept that quality isn’t the be-all-and-end-all of whether or not something is entertaining. More than any other factor the entertainment level is the most important.
My wife is a very intelligent woman, she has a good science degree gained at a good university, but she likes formulaic romances specifically because they are unchallenging. They are easy and relaxing, requiring no need to engage your brain.
I apologise if this has already been stated in previous comments but I really don’t have the time to read SO many comments. You’ve certainly stirred something up there!
I honestly lol’d. I figured it was pretty clear that it was the authors intention to troll, it seems he was quite successful.
BTW, there are plenty of excellent female directors and producers. Two of them directed one of the best dramatical series I’ve ever seen (Generation Kill) (Nina K. Noble, Andrea Calderwood)
Sorry that your close mindedness blinded you from doing any research. This isn’t even a decent troll.
If Twighlight was written with men in mind it would most likely have involved far more weaponry, foul language, attention to gore and an ACTUAL penis not to mention BOOBS galore…It wasn;t!! It’s a romeo and juliet style story of love anguish and pain of the internal type which men do not have the capacity of emotion to understand. Hey, we all love the door being opened for us, but if he went all soppy and stopped watching war movies what would women have to winge about. I love Twighlight (but the books better)
WTF? What is wrong with you? Did your girlfriend refuse to have sex with you? Do you even have a girlfriend? With opinions like this, I wouldn´t be suprised. I am a 27-year old woman, and I dislike Twilight. It destroys all vampire mythology and celebrates bad acting. I love Lord of the Rings, I love fantasy and sci-fi. What does it make me? You have NO IDEA what women or female viewers like. That this twisted piece of s*** is successful is a pure marketing. You damn moron go back to school, make some serious research and then try to write something.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion & my writing concentrates on film reviews, which are virtually entirely opinion-based, but I take issue with the vile & vitriol which you are spewing forth in this article. It is written from an ill-informed misogynistic point of view and its grand generalizations let the writer down.
You’ll certainly generate plenty of interest and impassioned comments, and in that respect you have been very successful but if you want your writing to be taken seriously, rather than just the sexist and out-dated ideas behind your words, then you will have to work on your craft.
Guess what asshole, you’re WRONG. Twilight is amazing, romantic, sweet, and SUPERIOR to your trashy films that you like. Only creepy person here is YOU. Don’t be jealous just because women love Edward Cullen and you have trouble getting women.
This is a crap article. It’s sexist in every way possible.
Sure, I’m a male and I hate Twilight myself and I find it completely out of hand, but that is no excuse to say that all women suck at choosing what they like.
I think your girlfriend (probably used-to-be girlfriend) refused to do it with you and now you’re mad.
Seriously, go learn some respect and then write an article.
Nice =). Not the sexist(ness)… but you’re smart to write this. haha. I understand why. All these people gettin pissed while ur gettin $
.
I agree that the story of Twilight it tripe. New Moon completely destroys any sense of alignment the audience feels with Bella the main character. To me, she seems little more than a whore, jumping from one guy to another then back again as soon as the first shows up.
However, as far as films go, yes the first film was terrible, however the second film, New Moon, is not so. Yes, I’m a guy, I think twilight is bad, but you can’t dismiss a film purely on story. Visually and technically, New moon was fantastique. The setting was brilliant, the cinematography was amazing. It was let down by some of the make up and the cgi of the werewolves though. The characters had little depth and seemed to rely heavily on the audience having read and remembering the book series.
Kirsten is actually a decent actress, yes, her acting isn’t great in these films but I blame that purely on the character she has to portray. Check out another film she’s been in like Panic Room, and you’ll see she is in fact a good actress.
As far as female directors go, Katia Lund is one hell of director. One of her greatest movies is City of God. Again, check this out and tell me it’s not good.
Get your facts right before jumping to completely retarded conclusions there are already enough braindead people on the internet, we don’t need any more.
Interesting article and interesting reviews!
I love you who ever wrote this article, your amazing, and people make these kinds of movies because 90% of Americans are idiots, or at least have bad taste in movies, and 51% of the world is women, so you can’t stop crapy movies like this, people will like any movie, because they’re idiots, thanks for a good read dude.
Twilight did well, ladies. We flocked to the theatres to see it. And that means we have bad taste. It can’t have anything to do with the fact that movies w/ female-driven plotlines are so few and far between in Hollywood that women come out in droves to support the few that make it to the theaters. Nope. It’s got nothing to do with that.
Titanic, Juno, Julia and Julia, Sex and the City I, Precious, Dreamgirls – the success of all these films is based on your stupidity and poor taste, ladies. Never forget that.
The success of say, Transformers or GI Joe – well, that’s a burden we all bear, regardless of gender. Because men do not have to answer for their tastes…
I’m so sorry – I submitted my comment before having caught this little gem from your article “Women don’t have large brain capacity when it comes to art.”
You, sir, are clearly a mouth-breathing cretin that is to be pitied, rather than rebuked. Carry on.
I wish I would have wrote this before you, just for lulz.
Look people, get the hell over your femanist views. If a man wont accept you as a fully fledged human being now, what makes you think you can change him?
Once a racist, always a racist.
Once a sexist, always a sexist.
Though I am not either of those, my father is (unfortunantly).
Well, Kungfupoo, you have chosen a topic that will generate interest and possibly profit for you, that’s for sure.
However, your attitude toward your material, your lack of writing skill, and your inability to present unbiased facts portrays you as less than worthy of any attention this article brings you.
Most of your language usage does nothing to support your credibility or your views, and, your sexist generalizations and over-simplifications only provide your readers with buckshot to fire back at you. (More men than women were involved in the production of the film. Also, the lack of famous female film directors has more to do with gender discrimination than lack of talent, a fact you so blithely ignore.)
That being said, I agree with you on some points. I agree that the Twilight novel was badly written, and so the script. I agree that Bella Swan is less than deserving of her romantic notions because of her lack of concern for her own safety. I agree that the hype the books received is what gave the movies their forward motion. Heck, I even agree that some mothers really should monitor what their kids read. Meyer has nothing on Rice, Burroughs, Bradbury, or others of the genre.
One thing I must ask you first is: Did you even read Twilight? It’s not about Bella being stalked by Edward. He told her that it would be better if they weren’t even friends. It’s about Bella’s fascination with him, and her continuous stupidity in pursuing him, even though she finds out what he is. She puts herself and everyone around her in danger, which makes her more the villain of the book than its main protagonist. That was Meyer’s biggest mistake, but that doesn’t matter, because in spite of her choices as a novelist her book succeeded in selling.
I just want to be sure you know that it is your unprofessional manner that gives those who read this the same claimant status to it as you have. (If you act incivil, expect it back.) So, it should be no surprise to you that you’ll receive nasty comments.
If this “article” does earn you quite a few pennies, its success will be based on the same principle that Meyer’s was…..quality won’t matter, just popularity.
Wow, and here I assumed from the title that this was going to a Stephen Colbert-style parody of sexist generalizations. I gave you too much credit.
Think of it this way. The Saw, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Hostel, and Friday The 13th movies could make the argument that men have no taste. We’re EVEN.
I dislike Twilight too, but you sir, are a tool.
I say 1+UP for creating an article that would get many views. I wouldn’t think triond would publish this. But WTH your great!
I, for one agree with the article. The Copolla bitch is only famous because of her father and the other bitches that direct movies are also famous for something different from movie directing. Bitches don’t have the brain capacity – how true.
Do not generalize women. I for one am not a fan of the Twilight series. The movie and the book was a success mainly because the marketing hype to the teens and the teen-minded was successful. If it does not appeal to you, then you are not the audience, but a million of them are. That’s where the money comes from. It’s showbiz!
Im not gonna say anything else except i agree……. take it as you want to.
Twilight is pretty terrible, but some guys like it as well, and some woman don’t.
Hey, just because you met a few sappy girls does not mean all women have bad taste in movies. I would never go see Twilight or read the books, though my very male cousin read the books. And I don’t have to call men nerds to defend my taste in movies because my all time favorite movie (as well as my female sister’s) happens to be the Lord of the Rings trilogy (and I have a male friend who makes fun of my sister and I for liking Lord of the Rings, not the other way around.)
I CANT BELEIVE YOU CAN SAY THIS. ALSO, I CANT BELEIVE THAT YOU ARE GETTING MONEY FOR THIS SEXIST ARTICLE. IM A GUY, AND I LIKED TWILIGHT. POOR TASTE? ITS A STYLE.
You are very sexist! I am wondering how this made it to Hot Content. As far as the USA, we are the richest and best country in the world so I am not sure in what century you are but you are way off here. I sure don’t settle for mediocrity. What are u talking about that women are not art inclined. dude, and what is this all about women making bad choices in terms of movies? You should read more and talk less crap
Oh my god! How sexist can you be?!
You really need to open your eyes and look at what is actually going on in the world!
Grow up dude!
Stop being such a jerk. Keep your sexist ideas to yourself!
Yes, Twilight sucks, but women aren’t obsessed with that movie; little girls are. Kids and teens do tend to gravitate toward movies/books that suck if that’s what’s popular at the time simply because they haven’t been exposed to much else in the limited amount of time they’ve been alive.
Not just women like crap movies.
half of the stuff written in this thing is probably sexist, or not, but who really gives a shit. honestly, when i watched the movie (i hate myself for it) i found it mildly enjoyable. not for the story (i read that to sadly) but because i wanted to know what was better (the movie) yeah the movie wasnt the best ever. it was made for money.like the candy bar, and the book and all of the other things out there. but so was dark knight, and transformers and every other movie in existance. cant blame people for wanting money, i know i want some money. and let the guy be sexist. hes probably a troll in disguise. if you dont know what a troll is, google it. no its not the one that carries a tree and lives under a bridge. im sure we can all agree that in the end none of what this guy wrote is gonna matter 45 minutes after we read this. and its not gonna matter when i say the booked sucked for 3 very specific reasons, and i can name them, no theyre not edward sparkles, or hes a stalker, or hes abusive and all that, cause well technically he really isnt. well he is, but within a thoughtful reason. my arguement on that is hes a vampire, of course hes a stalker. hes a vampire, he hunts food. its now his second nature to stalk things. yeah hes stalking for a wierd reason but hey hes apparently up all night with nothing to do (hasnt he ever heard of television?) and he uses his spare time on stupid shit (like watching a teenager with selfesteem issues who would like most other teenagers nowadays let a guy they “love” watch them while they sleep cause theyre bored) but again guys a vampire. also hes not abusive. hes over a hundred years old. the guy comes from a different time when women were treated differently, they stayed home and made stew and popped out babies (hows that for sexist) and its kinda hard to change a persons ways, even with 100 years. lets face it, guys clearly got issues, but still again, in his defense hes a vampire. the sparkling thing. i guess thats kinda a give or take thing, either you care or you dont. to me im sure all of the other vampires from other worlds are laughing about how hes not a real man since he dont burst into flames from sunlight like they do. probably call him a fag. however i did have 3 reasons for disliking the book.
1:its very slow and monotonous, kinda like keanu reeves telling the story but without the star value. with a book like that surely the actors are portraying the story perfectly with the terrible acting, could say they are amazing actors, but thats probably not true.
2:the main characters (edward and bella) care for no one other than themselves and each other. while at the beginning of the story bella says, i love my mom and would never want to hurt her, id never leave her side, she instead decides to leave her and move back to the father she disrespects because he loved his home, instead of going with her new dad and getting to know him and creating a strong family bond and spending time with her mom who will most likely be bored and lonely while the boyfriend practices. so she moves. goes with charlie, the wicked awesome father who buys her a truck, is she happy about it? no, not until she likes it, but does she give him a proper thank you, again no. then she complains about school, im not gonna have any friends, and like black people when you tell a black joke people just appear out of nowhere, “hey wanna be friends?” what does bella do. complain. “these people wont leave me the hell alone!” she even complains how no boys are gonna like her. boom boys from nowhere,”wanna go to prom?” man these boys wont leave me alone. it just goes on. edward on the other hand, knowing that vampires arent supposed to fall in love with humans goes and does something stupid, saves her, falls in love, tells her hes a vampire, introduces his family, says screw the rules, and then kills a vampire who tries to do his thing by eating people (namely bella). and what does edwards family do. accepts all of it, lets her in with open arms, doesnt mind the whole oh if the elders find out were fucked, as long as edward is happy. point is edward and bella, very very much so douchbags.
3 this ones not even the books, this is against the writer herself. cause im pretty sure that she most likely made the book for money, not that writers dont write for money, but how many writers specifically write a love story about vampires for teenage girls who nowadays most have a very low self esteem and believe they are worthless and want a boy to notice them? the reason i believe teenage girls like the book is basically, they are able to find themselves in bella. because bella is a mary sue, as in her only faults are that shes clumsy (true) shes ugly (all of the male student body even a vampire whos been around for 100 years and has probably seen more beautiful women than her wants her) she is stupid and only smart because shes already done the stuff in school at her old school (which makes her advanced in her class thus making her smarter than the other students) has no friends (even though 8 come out of nowhere within 30 seconds and are genuinly interested in her and where shes from)….etc. basically all of the things a teenage girl feels nowadays. but somehow through all of this edward, this “perfect” (again vampire, so if you say hes ugly, your technically wrong cause if you were near him youd swoon as well) man child falls deeply in love with her, cause shes interesting. if that doesnt sound like a cliche way to try and get in her pants i have no idea what is. the fact is that the writer purosely makes you able to feel like bella so that you can feel that youll get yourself an edward cullen. cause teenage girls want love nowadays, or robert pattinson, depending on how much of a twitard they are. and honestly thats not gonna happen and a lot of people are gonna get hurt or waste their lives, and thats a really sad thing to think about. of course guys cant relate to this story, unless they are gay. really.so yeah, the story does suck. it is bad. and the writer is a cunt, unless you are your average hormon riddled easily manipulated teenage girl.then this book is your bible, stephanie meyer is your prohpet, edward cullen is your god, and anyone who thinks other wise is just plain well, stupid. i guess you could say that it would also work for guys as well, cause teenage girls are also looking for a cross between fabio, owen wilson, and hitler. dont get me wrong, hitler had charisma, i mean how else are you gonna get a whole race of people to believe that long haired blue eyed people are the omega race when you yourself have short brown hair and look wimpy? fabio is also supposed to be the most amazing man on the planet, not to most standards nowadays but think really hard and that muscular man with the long flowing blonde hair thats soft and bouncy and the accent and then youve got fabio, plus hes rich, and owen wilson, well hes funny and stuff (yeah very persuasive there) and youve got an edward cullen. most guys around the age of 14 dont have a chance of being like that, being tall and lanky, or short and fat, pimples, possible braces, scratchy voices, and a sweaty stinky smell, its unfair, for some one to have to compete with a figment of someones sexual fantasies.
so those would be my reasons for not liking the book. not a single sparkle problem in there, no hes a stalker/abusive nothing like that. pretty well thought out. now all i gotta do is sit back and listen to all the teenage girls call blasphemy since i said the book sucked.
half of the stuff written in this thing is probably sexist, or not, but who really gives a shit. honestly, when i watched the movie (i hate myself for it) i found it mildly enjoyable. not for the story (i read that to sadly) but because i wanted to know what was better (the movie) yeah the movie wasnt the best ever. it was made for money.like the candy bar, and the book and all of the other things out there. but so was dark knight, and transformers and every other movie in existance. cant blame people for wanting money, i know i want some money. and let the guy be sexist. hes probably a troll in disguise. if you dont know what a troll is, google it. no its not the one that carries a tree and lives under a bridge. im sure we can all agree that in the end none of what this guy wrote is gonna matter 45 minutes after we read this. and its not gonna matter when i say the booked sucked for 3 very specific reasons, and i can name them, no theyre not edward sparkles, or hes a stalker, or hes abusive and all that, cause well technically he really isnt. well he is, but within a thoughtful reason. my arguement on that is hes a vampire, of course hes a stalker. hes a vampire, he hunts food. its now his second nature to stalk things. yeah hes stalking for a wierd reason but hey hes apparently up all night with nothing to do (hasnt he ever heard of television?) and he uses his spare time on stupid shit (like watching a teenager with selfesteem issues who would like most other teenagers nowadays let a guy they \”love\” watch them while they sleep cause theyre bored) but again guys a vampire. also hes not abusive. hes over a hundred years old. the guy comes from a different time when women were treated differently, they stayed home and made stew and popped out babies (hows that for sexist) and its kinda hard to change a persons ways, even with 100 years. lets face it, guys clearly got issues, but still again, in his defense hes a vampire. the sparkling thing. i guess thats kinda a give or take thing, either you care or you dont. to me im sure all of the other vampires from other worlds are laughing about how hes not a real man since he dont burst into flames from sunlight like they do. probably call him a fag. however i did have 3 reasons for disliking the book.

3 this ones not even the books, this is against the writer herself. cause im pretty sure that she most likely made the book for money, not that writers dont write for money, but how many writers specifically write a love story about vampires for teenage girls who nowadays most have a very low self esteem and believe they are worthless and want a boy to notice them? the reason i believe teenage girls like the book is basically, they are able to find themselves in bella. because bella is a mary sue, as in her only faults are that shes clumsy (true) shes ugly (all of the male student body even a vampire whos been around for 100 years and has probably seen more beautiful women than her wants her) she is stupid and only smart because shes already done the stuff in school at her old school (which makes her advanced in her class thus making her smarter than the other students) has no friends (even though 8 come out of nowhere within 30 seconds and are genuinly interested in her and where shes from)….etc. basically all of the things a teenage girl feels nowadays. but somehow through all of this edward, this \”perfect\” (again vampire, so if you say hes ugly, your technically wrong cause if you were near him youd swoon as well) man child falls deeply in love with her, cause shes interesting. if that doesnt sound like a cliche way to try and get in her pants i have no idea what is. the fact is that the writer purosely makes you able to feel like bella so that you can feel that youll get yourself an edward cullen. cause teenage girls want love nowadays, or robert pattinson, depending on how much of a twitard they are. and honestly thats not gonna happen and a lot of people are gonna get hurt or waste their lives, and thats a really sad thing to think about. of course guys cant relate to this story, unless they are gay. really.so yeah, the story does suck. it is bad. and the writer is a cunt, unless you are your average hormon riddled easily manipulated teenage girl.then this book is your bible, stephanie meyer is your prohpet, edward cullen is your god, and anyone who thinks other wise is just plain well, stupid. i guess you could say that it would also work for guys as well, cause teenage girls are also looking for a cross between fabio, owen wilson, and hitler. dont get me wrong, hitler had charisma, i mean how else are you gonna get a whole race of people to believe that long haired blue eyed people are the omega race when you yourself have short brown hair and look wimpy? fabio is also supposed to be the most amazing man on the planet, not to most standards nowadays but think really hard and that muscular man with the long flowing blonde hair thats soft and bouncy and the accent and then youve got fabio, plus hes rich, and owen wilson, well hes funny and stuff (yeah very persuasive there) and youve got an edward cullen. most guys around the age of 14 dont have a chance of being like that, being tall and lanky, or short and fat, pimples, possible braces, scratchy voices, and a sweaty stinky smell, its unfair, for some one to have to compete with a figment of someones sexual fantasies.
so those would be my reasons for not liking the book. not a single sparkle problem in there, no hes a stalker/abusive nothing like that. pretty well thought out. now all i gotta do is sit back and listen to all the teenage girls call blasphemy since i said the book sucked.
half of the stuff written in this thing is probably sexist, or not, but who really gives a shit. honestly, when i watched the movie (i hate myself for it) i found it mildly enjoyable. not for the story (i read that to sadly) but because i wanted to know what was better (the movie) yeah the movie wasnt the best ever. it was made for money.like the candy bar, and the book and all of the other things out there. but so was dark knight, and transformers and every other movie in existance. cant blame people for wanting money, i know i want some money. and let the guy be sexist. hes probably a troll in disguise. if you dont know what a troll is, google it. no its not the one that carries a tree and lives under a bridge. im sure we can all agree that in the end none of what this guy wrote is gonna matter 45 minutes after we read this. and its not gonna matter when i say the booked sucked for 3 very specific reasons, and i can name them, no theyre not edward sparkles, or hes a stalker, or hes abusive and all that, cause well technically he really isnt. well he is, but within a thoughtful reason. my arguement on that is hes a vampire, of course hes a stalker. hes a vampire, he hunts food. its now his second nature to stalk things. yeah hes stalking for a wierd reason but hey hes apparently up all night with nothing to do (hasnt he ever heard of television?) and he uses his spare time on stupid shit (like watching a teenager with selfesteem issues who would like most other teenagers nowadays let a guy they “love” watch them while they sleep cause theyre bored) but again guys a vampire. also hes not abusive. hes over a hundred years old. the guy comes from a different time when women were treated differently, they stayed home and made stew and popped out babies (hows that for sexist) and its kinda hard to change a persons ways, even with 100 years. lets face it, guys clearly got issues, but still again, in his defense hes a vampire. the sparkling thing. i guess thats kinda a give or take thing, either you care or you dont. to me im sure all of the other vampires from other worlds are laughing about how hes not a real man since he dont burst into flames from sunlight like they do. probably call him a fag. however i did have 3 reasons for disliking the book.

man i had this really long thing written out but aparrently its got an error on it. that sucks.
well apparently it posted it, several times. sorry guys my bad.
I’m sorry to say that your article is very sexist, I beleive you have forgotten a great romantic female director, Nora Ephron.
However, I have to agree that Twilight is the worst book I’ve ever read (that’s why I’m not interested in watching the movie.
Characters are flat, nothing happens in at least 50% of the book, and the events are totally unbelievable, and that’s not a matter of being a fantasy book: the Harry Potter series is brillantly written with craftet characters and events are believable in the fantasy world created.
All that said, you should try to judge the material first instead of the audience who it is aimed at. With your line of thought then I should state men are closer to animals since they watch wrestling!
I’m a woman, I have never seen and will not see Twilight. I’m over 18… And from what I’ve been seeing, men are going to see the film too and not just because their girlfriends are dragging them to see it.
And, for the record, many women liked Lord of the Rings. Are you telling me that every movie that is popular with men or made by men is great? BS.
I am a girl too, and I must say, you are quite wrong and I agree with some of the people here. I am a women and I don’t even like Twilight. It’s not the matter of whether you are a women or a man liking this movie, it is the matter of an individual’s taste in their movies.
I thought people liked it b/c it is a love story?! I hav not seen it, but that is what I have been lead to believe. The whole vampire aspect of it, is just to help tell the story, right right?
I see where your coming from, I have been writing reviews of books that I’ve read for a while now. Twilight the series itself wasn’t a bad read, but I will say that the first movie wasn’t all that good. There were things not shown in the movie that were in the book. I haven’t seen the second movie and i will be going to see it.
Each to thier own when it comes to what you or anyone else writes about. I will say that I know another series that is better then Twilight. That’s the house of night series. But, that’s my opinion.
Isn’t this a little bit of a stereotype?
Yes, the Twilight was a horrible series, yeah, they were also incredibly bad movies compared to LOTR, POTC, Umm..I don’t know about Harry Potter..I was really upset of how much they cut out of Harry Potter from the books.
Anyway, I’ve read plenty of books, and heard plenty of opinions from both sides. They just like different things. Just because your opinion doesn’t seem right to the other person, doesn’t mean the other person has bad taste.
I think this article is way too stereotypical, too biased, and like 30% of it is true.
And that’s coming from a guy.
-Sigh-
i just joined today and i need to ask a question.
uhm, okay. it says you ahve to have a picture thing, right?
well down there under the tags things. i put in tags multiple times and even got suggestions, but every time i hit “find image” it wont find any! what do i do? i’m lost.
ok im sorry, even though you might have a tiny point, you cant categorize all women like that, not as much as you can categorize all men as beer drinking, foulmouthed spitters, but taht was horrible,, sure some women have horrible taste in movies, but SO DO MEN!!!! god you must be an idiot, or maybe you just thought of a topic that would get you lots of cash, well that ruined my appetite, g’day sexist bitch
@bluedinosaur101 : There is a glitch right now that’s causing an error in the image-finder. You’ll have to be patient with the Triond admins to get it sorted out.
And by the way guys if you look at the rest of his articles, they’re pretty much all sexist.

THIS GUY IS JUST INTELLIGENT!!!
DON’T FALL FOR IT!!
HE MADE A STUPID ARTICLE SO PEOPLE CRITICIZE HIM SO HE GETS COMMENT ON HIS STUPID ARTICLE!!
PD: I’M A MAN
Awww someone is upset they dont have Taylor L. body.
Look, sexist asshole, I’m a girl and I hate the Twilight industry. It’s ridiculous that you think that if some emotionally crippled teenagers like it, then everyone woman has to. It’s generalizations like that that disgust me. Wanna know my favorite chick flick? Man on Fire. You know, with Denzel Washington? If you don’t, then google it. You disgust me, you arrogant, self important chauvanist.
I agree with you on some things… Twilight is an awesome story…I just don\’t think that Stephanie Meyer should have written it though. I don\’t think it reads like a 5th grade level, there are too many damn big words in it….but yea, I agree with the acting too. They don\’t really act well. And I would like to add that I agree that Kristen does look bored, but you have to realize that these aren\’t action movies. I AM a female, but I LOVE the new Batman and the Dark Knight, AWESOME movies. As well as transformers. I think the reason why you don\’t see too many women in a director\’s chair is because they just don\’t want to be. I don\’t want to be a movie director, but I am studying to be an Animation Director. I think that your opinion is very valuable, but you can leave the sexist comments out of your hatred for the Twilight series. Have you even read the books? My husband actually like the Twilight series, and he\’s ALL MAN. So, there\’s no need to bash it hon, read it first, and then make your own opinion. And it isn\’t only teenage girls that like Twilight. I am 23 now, and I like the books. So there. And….Taylor does have an awesome body in New Moon….I guess that would make me a pedophile… since he\’s under 18….oh well. He\’s sexy. And that\’s all I have to say about that.
Men are superior to women in every way possible, they should be in the kitchen where they belong and not in the movie theater.
I agree 100% with this article, most women are just plain idiots
This is a great attempt to get views on Triond. I haven’t seen Twilight, nor do I have the time or desire to see it. Great time for this article as well.
I am so tempted to write a ‘trash for views’ article but find that …I cannot. I do envy the author for his short-term success with this, but if the fanbase in negative, it isn’t really a fanbase is it?
Not only does Meyer get Vampire and Werewolf lore wrong she does it in such a trite way that it hurts the entire genre. This is the biggest problem for me, you can adjust things and change things and build up on them but you have to know the base, and she is wildly clueless. The only thing she get’s right is that women will enjoy hot vampires no matter what else they may do. True Blood is another example of a terribly written grab for that cash pile allotted for easy fiction, you change the names, the basic premise stays the same, I personally found Buffy far more entertaining even with their limited budget.
In general her books are no worse than most romance novels, it’s easy to read, it gives you what you want at a steady pace and at the end you’re no wiser. Harry Potter seems like Tolstoy compared to this and it’s far more worthy of being adapted into movies too.
Haha I have to show this to all the girls I know that love twilight.
Good article!
The author is a genius. He made a highly controversial article insulting a whole gender. *Articles like this get the most views.
Not only that, but he also wrote about a topic most people feel strongly about on both sides.
Money Wise: Great work!
Wow. I wish I could have written something like this. You do realize that simply reading this makes the writer money? He’s probably made an amazing amount of cash from this.
I am an adult woman pursuing a university education (with a minor in English by the way) who also happens to be a twilight fan.
Twilight, is undeniably a poorly written book that a high school student with no training could have written. No one with any sort of substantial reading experience could argue that.
So why am I fan? I, like many intelligent women (and men for that matter), occasionally like to indulge in some sort of entertainment where I can turn my brain off. Whether it’s the book or the movie, it’s nice to sit back, relax, and enjoy twilight (the book or the movie) for what it is: a silly love story. There is no harm in this. This is not “poor taste.”
I can assure you that in my lifetime I have read more tasteful novels than the average Joe (or Jane) and try to make a point for seeing critically acclaimed movies, whether they are big blockbusters or not. I would even go as far to say that women enjoying twilight for the a viewing of the tween version of love and a few shirtless hotties is no different than men going to see the latest Megan Fox movie or watching many straight-up action movies (ie: any movie starring Vin Diesel).
Honestly, I’ve gotta say… if a guy sparkles, there’s a chance they aren’t that into women.
I agree with a lot of this but not all women or teenagers have bad taste in movies. Lots of them do, yes. The obsessions on this saga is getting old.. actually it was old to begin with. When new moon came out i literally automatically hated it because i knew how many people would be screaming and fighting about team edward and team jacob. It’s all going too far.
While I agree with some of the points you raised, I don’t care for the generalization that women have terrible taste in movies. To be frank, I find many men’s movies boring–I mean common, you can only see so many cars crash and burn. But, I wouldn’t say that all men have bad taste, just those who want to view movies with lots of visual effects but little substance.
I applaud you.
Not for the article itself, no way, but it is amazing how a relatively well written article could be read by so many over a minor controversial topic.
How much cash you make just from angry people coming back to comment?
PS: you are still sexist, but gratz.
Yeh, nice title… it sucked me in. And then the article itself is relatively poorly written by contrast. Your whole article makes a terribly sexist generalization which is totally unfounded. Yes, Twilight seems to be poorly written (I haven’t read it, but I trust the opinions that I have received so far) and the movies look extremely lame (I am not encouraged to watch them after seeing the previews), but that is no reason to judge an entire gender. Yes, women Do want love and romance in their stories. Why? Because we don’t get it in the real world. Not for long enough, anyway. So, forgive us for wanting a little magic. I think the fact that Twilight has done so well is a testament to how well developed women’s imaginations are. Given something average with a hint of what we are looking for, we can fill in the gaps and make it what we want it to be. Hence, yes, authors of topics like this might be able to get away with less, but it is not a sign of stupidity on the readers part. More a sign of hope.
And as for The Dark Knight… yes, and epic movie. Poorly directed, though. Christian Bale was brilliant in the previous film, but he was over directed in this one. Basically, the movie got a whole lot more hype than it deserved.
Well done on making a penny out of your opinion. But I hope that you develop more of an understanding of women with time.
I went to see New Moon last night. It was just as brilliant as Twilight. Stephanie Meyers is great. She wouldn’t have sold so many books if her writing was bad! I have never seen so many people in our local cinema on a Tuesday night so I think that proves who is right and who is wrong!
… Are you kidding me? Could this article be more sexist?
Just because most women like Twilight doesn’t mean we all do. I hate Twilight. I absolutely loved The Lord of the Rings, and in my opinion no movie will ever come close to The Dark Knight.
And girls didn’t read until Twilight came out? Have you been living under a rock all your life? Plenty of girls read books before Twilight came out, and will continue to read books after Twilight came out.
I am a 16 year old from England and I enjoyed the books of Twilight, but I’m not overly fond of the films.
I think that this article is extremely sexist and I hate that the fact that some men think that because they are men gives them control over what women think. It’s not right. the population of women in the world has increased to 51%. And this will continue to increase. And there are many great female directors out there, it’s just they don’t get the spotlight because we live in a sexist society. So, whoever wrote this article can take thier finger out of their ass, wake up, smell the bacon and LEARN TO LIVE WITH THE FACT THAT WOMEN ARE BETTER THEN MEN IN MANY THINGS. DEAL WITH IT!
Kungfopoo wins. Sexism = win.
Wow. Is the author serious? Or is this just some sick joke?
I am a teenage girl, and I agree that twilight is crap. But saying that women aren’t as smart as men in the area of art? That’s just ridiculous.
Women flock to see twilight, yes, but not every. single. woman in America does. A lot do, but some girls just don’t go for that stuff.
Men go and watch transformers, and drool over Megan Fox. Women love Robert Pattinson. It’s a very similar situation, yet you say that “women have no taste in movies”?
Sometimes people just want to be shallow. Men do as often, if not more that women.
If this article weren’t so disgustingly sexist, I would agree. But I just end up feeling sickened by you. Well done.
Nice article here…. I hope to see more nice articles from you.. Cheers…
I agree with everything about why Twilight is horrible.
But I disagree about the women liking bad movies part. I’m female, and I hate Twilight. I absolutely loved Lord of the Rings and the Dark Knight.
Although you’re right about a lot of women, you’re way too over generalized here.
I agree completely with your views except rather than targetting women in general i would be targetting people in general.. what was that vampire movie that came out with megan fox taking off her clothes or something in the previews.. come on now. im sure plenty of teen guys and bi girls picked that up like wow this might be a good story.. people dont pay attention to whats in front of their faces, and then (hopefully) they go home disappointed… all because they played into this incredibly Highschool Musical-esque traditional way of influence and judgement.
People have devolved to letting other people think for them. and influence them without thinking about their options.. Thus we still have descrimination/bias against colors, groups, sexual preferences and religions.
well i havent actually seen highschool musical, so let me exchange that for 17 Again… you get the idea though.. if not click on my link and we’ll chat about it.
I am well aware there are other romantic movies that aren’t of twilight, and yes, they are well done movies. But I am also a fan of the twilight despite your OPINION, not FACT. Even if I read these books it does not mean I have bad taste. I am a fan of the marvel comics and the movies they have made. Firstly, Stephenie Meyer never claimed her books are of literature genre, they were simply books she had written out of fun? Why is that a crime. I love Steven King, but he needs to somehow interview Stephenie Meyer instead of bashing on other authors just because they aren’t of HIS standards. Maybe he should try The Host, he might be surprised. This book is beneficial because it is a step to getting them be interested in other books, and yes, of literature. It may come as to a surprise, but those who have read these Twilight books expanded their horizons in trying out other books. It’s a good step. The only bad thing I can say is how out of control it has gotten. Also, these are NEW actos, give them a break. I mean, yes, Kristen has been around since she was young, but they are getting better in these movies. Despite your sexist and generlization, just deal with it and shut up. Nothing you do or say will change this situation. And you might one to reread your own article and state that all your crap is just that, an OPINION. Not a fact. Hahah
Not only is Twilight sexist, your article is sexist! I\’m a teenage girl and my friends and I can\’t stand Twilight. What does that tell you?
