Synopsis: An inspiring writer visits Verona and, after answering a 50-year-old letter written to the fictional Juliet, ends up on an adventure across Italy helping an elderly woman find her long-lost love Lorenzo.
Who’s in it? Amanda Seyfried, Vanessa Redgrave, Christopher Egan.
What I liked about this movie: I’m getting tired of the numerous re-makes and sequels out there so the fact this movie had a somewhat unique plot did win it some points. Yes, it ended up being somewhat predictable (like most romantic movies) but the fact it was different to start with and managed to have some beautiful scenery too did make it easy to overlook that.
I also loved how they had to find Lorenzo when everyone in Italy seemed to have the same name (both first and last), including quite a few in such a small search area. Apparently his name must be like John Smith here in America.
What I didn’t like about this movie: I hated the ending. And, it wasn’t just because it was predictable. I hated the part where she mistakes Patricia for his ex-girlfriend because it was too much of a set up. Nobody introduces someone just by their first name. They introduce them by saying something like “this is my cousin, Patricia.”
Final Opinion: I hate romantic movies but thought this one was pretty decent. I would definitely recommend it for your next date night at home.
