Best & Often Missed Date Movies
These movies are perfect choices for a date no matter who you’re with.
When you’re selecting a movie to watch with a date, they’re a couple of things to watch out for. First, you don’t want to offend your date. If you watch something overly crude, religiously loaded, or hyper-violent, he or she might just get up and walk out (or worse yet burst into tears and relay a painful personal anecdote). Secondly, you want your date to think you’ve got great taste in movies, not that you just plucked something from the shelf willy nilly. Any of these 5 choices are sure to impress, and hopefully, you won’t even make it to the credits.
1. Risky Business – Despite Tom Cruise’s eccentricities, this movie is a sure fire hit. It features Cruise, along with Rebecca De Mornay, early on in his career as a high school senior looking to define himself, sexually and otherwise. It’s the same carpe diem spirit that underlies American Pie and so many other modern, sex-crazed, discovery films, but it’s much classier, much funnier, and the soundtrack by Tangerine Dream is unbeatable.
2. The Sting – Redford and Newman in a real classic. This film is often called touted as a man’s pic, but it really is great all around. Girls will love the two dreamboat stars, and the story is lighthearted and captivating enough for both genders. And don’t worry, even though you might think it’s from the days of yore, it has aged incredibly well.
3. When Harry Met Sally – Rob Reiner is a genius. This film was long before its time. It features Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal just missing the mark when it comes to falling in love time and time again until they finally meet each other for the third time and swoon. The scenes from New York streets are unbelievably well shot and absolutely pleasant to view. Also, the soundtrack is as funny and engaging as can be.
4. The Tao of Steve – This may be a little to indy for some, but others love it. It features Donal Logue as an overweight, late 20’s deadbeat with the perfect philosophy for getting women, at least until he meets one he actually likes. Very budget film, but worth watching with someone you like.
5. Sabrina – I’m in the minority here, but I actually like the remake with Harrison Ford more than the original. It’s got it’s own modern spin and some really great acting. Not to say the first isn’t great. Either one will serve you well.
