Want to see something really different? Are you a fan of musicals? Opera? Rock and Roll? Then Repo! Might be right up your alley. It is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman who also directed Saw II through Saw IV and he doesn’t spare any of the gore from the Saw series here. The movie is a visual and auditory delight. Its a film that gets better with every viewing and you will find yourself signing along in no time. The movie has drawn many comparisons to The Rocky Horror Picture Show and its future cult status is all but guaranteed. The producers have already taken the movie on a “Repo Road Tour” with stars from the movie in attendance. While the similarities with RHPS are obvious there are some real differences. Repo is much darker than Rocky, though the ending hold more hope as Shilo ( Alexa Vega) goes off to make her own future, while Brad and Janet are left to wallow in their shattered belief system. Its also much bloodier than the earlier picture and technically a much better film. The acting is better and the writing and directing spot on. the songs are masterpieces and run the gamut from Sarah Brightman’s classical crooning to high energy, get up and dance grooves.
The story is set in the not too distant future and revolves around Shilo Wallace. A young girl who has spent her entire life locked in her room by her overprotective father. Unknown to Shilo, her father Nathan is actually the Repo Man( Anthony Stewart Head.) In this modern word organ failure is rampant. the world is saved by Geneco, a company owned by Rotti Largo ( Paul Sorvino,) who perfect a safe and inexpensive system of organ transplants and a highly addictive pain killer to make the operation bearable. they even offer a financing plan. Problem is if you fall behind, the company has the legal right to take possession of the organs, by any means possible. thus was born the Repo Man. Rotti controls the Repo man by a secret they both share concerning Shilo’s mother who died during childbirth.
As the movie opens Rotti finds out that he is dying and decides his children are not worthy of inheriting Geneco. He is willing to give the company to Shilo, but there is a price she must pay. Eventually the Nathan starts to rebel against Rotti’s control when he is ordered to kill one of his wife’s oldest friends, Blind Mag( Sarah Brightman.) At the same time Rotti’s children are fighting over control of the company unaware of their dads plan. All the players come together at the Genetic Opera, the grand televised spectacle that showcases Geneco and celebrates Rotti Largo as the savior of the human race. All secrets are revealed in a performance filled with hedonistic dancing, wonderful singing and buckets of blood. What will happen to Geneco? Will Shilo find her freedom? You can find out… At the opera Tonight!

I love musicals and I watched Repo! three times. It is an excellent show. I gave it to my music teacher to watch. I’m not sure how he liked it, but it’s still an awesome show.
