Why Watch Horror Movies

Reasons to watch horror movies.

Some people, like me, love to watch horror. The question is why do we like to watch them? Well the reasons due to which I like them are as listed below:

They Show an Alternate View of Life

By showing supernatural creatures and inexplicable happenings, horror movies show us a side of life which we have (fortunately) never seen. What horror movies show we cannot see in real life, so we like the novelty of it. I am not talking about the gross zombie movies but the real ghost/demon ones. In the horror movie “Insidious” it is shown that there are supernatural creatures around us all the time and if we step out of our physical bodies, we can see them.

They take us on an Adventure

When we are watching a horror movie, we are on an adventure with the main characters of the movie and we can share their adventure and the thrill of it. Mostly the film is full of difficult and dangerous situations and the actors have to make their way through it. Some of them make it till the end successfully and some don’t but it is the journey that is most important and upon which the movie is based. Like in the movie, Shutter, the heroine gets married but later sees some white shapes/shadows in her pictures with her husband and proceeds to find out the truth behind them.

They really scare us

Some horror movies actually manage to scare us even when we are sitting comfortably on our couch in daylight. Sometimes while watching a horror movie, we give the smallest of glances over our shoulders, just to check if someone or something is there. An example is when I saw “Drag me to Hell” in which the demon/ghost of the dead gypsy lady used to attack the main character out of nowhere. That was a really scary movie, at least to me. “The Grudge” (Part 1) is also a really scary movie that I found difficult to watch alone even in the afternoon (but I did, at last).

They make us feel proud

After watching a horror movie we can really say to our friends and family that we have watched such a scary movie and tell them the finer points of it. We can also dare them to watch the movie alone as well (if we have watched it alone). Watching horror movies can also (hopefully) make us realize how fake the monsters under our bed or in the closet are, because, if they were really there, they would have attacked us a long time back.

They give us Conversational Matter

When we are with friends or acquaintances, we can talk about the horror movie that we have watched recently and if they are also into it, ask them the names of any good ones that they have watched recently. With any luck, if your friends are also fans of horror movies you can exchange with them a list of horror movies to watch.

Happy horror-movie watching!
