Twilight Ruined The Reputation of The Vampire
Quick thought about why I refuse to read or watch the Twilight saga.
Since a very young age I have always watched and loved horror films due to the fact that all of my family are horror fans. If someone hasn’t been brutality and fatally attacked within the first twenty minutes of a film or in the first 10 chapters of a book then chances are it is not for me.
My favourite type of horror used to be supernatural horror rather than ‘based on a true story’ which included paranormal beings such as Frankenstein, ghosts, witches, etc but more importantly vampires. I have probably seen every vampire film that has ever been made with my all time favourites including Near dark, interview with a vampire, The lost boys, Moon Child, Fright night, Dracula, The addiction, From Dusk til Dawn, Kuroneko and so on and so forth.
In the past when I thought of Vampires, evil blood thirsty night creatures that preyed on the innocent and took the lives of men women and children alike came to mind. Creatures that strike fear into the heart and who can only be destroyed by sunlight, a steak to the heart of silver bullets.
However, a few years back pop culture brought something into the lime light which has forever tarnished the reputation of the Vampire for me and many others. I cannot have a conversation about Vampires without men and women fan girling and getting hot under the collar over a certain fictional character named Edward Cullen and this is all down to a book trilogy under the name of Twilight.
I have easily resisted reading the books or watching the films, well more so been repelled from them, as from what I have been informed about them goes against everything I have grown to believe and love about Vampires. Vampires do not fall in love with humans, nor do they protect said humans from danger. Vampires will only ever be seen by their victims and do not under any circumstances glitter in the sunlight. I mean, when I dressed as a vampire most years of youth for Halloween, the last thing I thought about buying for my costume was a roll on body glitter.
Hopefully, as an avid vampire fan for many years, I can only pray that the whole twilight saga will ware off and eventually disappear into history, only to be recovered once I have deceased. Here hoping.
Hope you have a magical day,
Hooves.
