The Orphan

A movie review.

This movie was not as scary as I thought it would be, but it was creepy. Isabelle Fuhrman plays Esther who is adopted by a couple looking to add to their family, but she comes with a big secret. Fuhrman amazed me. She is so adorable, but she can deliver the heebie-jeebies like nobodies business! The acting was good, the storyline was new. Everything else was slightly lacking. Still, I do hold this as a good piece of film.

Gore: 2/5 : So-so. There’s one or two death scenes with some blood, but nothing extraordinarily gory.

Visuals: 3/5 : The scenery was beautiful, and Isabelle Fuhrman looks sinister yet cute. But once again, nothing special.

Acting: 4/5 : Great. Everyone delivers, with the exception of the boy. Let me, again, rant about Fuhrman being amazing. Her accent was perfect, she was just all around amazing.

Scare-factor: 3/5 : Not a whole lot of jumping out of my seat, but I was thoroughly frightened by our twisted little villain.

Plot: 4/5 : Although it’s a story we’ve basically seen time and time again, this one has a very nice twist that I definitely did not see coming.

Would I watch it again: Yes. In fact, I may even buy it.

Director: Jaume Collet-Serra
