Growing up in rural Arkansas I had heard the stories about the Bigfoot like monster that roamed the swamps of the southern part of the state, but since it was a few hundred miles away I didnt really give it much thought. Then in 1972 when I was almost 7 a movie came out that forever changed that. The Legend of Boggy Creek is a great piece of must see cinema. To this day it is still a good creepy film that holds up. The movie is basically done in documentary form with re-inactments of various sightings and encounters with this unknown creature.
Of course now you have to realize these encounters were in the country, there were NO cellphones back then and sometimes neighbors were miles apart. Two of the encounters still to this day scare the crap outta me. One is a group of girls having a sleepover, they are talking about boys and the usual stuff girls do when they hear a noise outside and think its one of their boyfriends trying to scare them. Something is turning the knobs on the doors and they hear noise outside, one of the girls goes to look out the window and this monstrous howling roar lets loose and girls are hysterical, trying to load a gun and the shell are spilling all over the floor its a nerve jangling experience for sure. Another involves 2 women alone in a big old house and one goes to put a blanket over the window to stop a draft and she sees something outside and starts screaming hysterically and the cat outside is making a horrendous screeching noise, after a long night of something stalking the house the husband comes home and finds the women in quite a state of shock and the cat has no signs of any trauma but eyes wide open it was as if it had been scared to death.
There are several other great scenes and this is a great movie, it’s rated G ad would be a good sleepover scary movie for younger kids to watch with the lights out.
