Ok, so you are looking for a bit of a scare or trying to figure out if you should go see this movie with your girlfriend and let her find out how you scream like a little girl? Well let me tell you exactly what I think of this movie.
First of all, don’t be downturned by the R rating. There is next to no blood in the movie and absolutely no gore. Phew. Ok, so why’s this movie so scary you ask? Well it’s actually the ABSENCE of any gore, music or special effects that makes this movie so horrifying. The fact that it is very realistically portrayed is the movie’s way of worming itself into your brain for the next few weeks. After seeing this movie, you will not sleep the first three nights, and will constanlty hope that your kitchen doesn’t go crazy on you (watch the movie you’ll know what I mean).
This movie might start off a little bit slow, only presenting the characters and building a foundation to build upon, but you should be happy that this is how they did it instead of having the whole movie be a scare fest. The suspense is the true killer here. You will find yourself looking all over the screen a couple of times looking for ONE little thing that might be out of place. (I’m getting the chills just thinking about it, no lie.) All of a sudden something will happen and you will find yourself wishing that you hadn’t gone to see it. You will be waiting for the movie to go on at one moment when all of a sudden something will catch you off-guard. This movie is not for the faint-hearted. Although, if you have seen a lot of scary movies in the past, this one might not be as effectful on you. For the rest of us that got pressured by our friends into seing the movie, beware. This movie is a lot of fun to see at the theaters I think, to see everyone’s reaction. My buddy’s girlfriend was so horrified I started laughing. And then promptly felt like I was going to cry.
Overall, this movie is great to see with lots of friends, maybe not so much by yourself in the middle of the night with only one light on and your kitchen right behind you. You will never see your cupboard the same way again. I highly recommend this movie to any hard core horror junkie or just any casual movie-goer that is looking to have a little scare with some friends.
