“Paranormal Activity” Not Scary?

Paranormal Activity ,despite being a well recieved movie nationwide, was concieved by some as not at all scary.

“Paranormal Activity” is a fairly cheaply made horror film hit that was rated as the scariest movie of 2007 by ScreamFest. It tells the story of Katie and Micah a young couple which were suddenly bombarded with a host of Paranormal happenings such as shadows appearing at night, a mysterious breaking of a cherished photo, sudden abnormal noises, doors opening, and footprints. Though many find the movie to be thrilling and or one of the scariest movies they’ve seen others are completely unfazed. Lack of sound and the constant annoying “whats that” type comments may have detoured some of its watchers. Some people may have also found the sound effects to be cheesy or unrealistic. Even some people who are sensitive the Paranormal were unaffected. I believe the matter of whether this movie is scary or not pertains to each individuals feelings and thoughts and that generates how the person will react toward that movie. I doubt I am the first to say this but don’t go to the theaters believing you will be scared out of your wits or you may be very disappointed. Enjoy the movie for what it is and just have fun. I do agree with what you say with it depends on who you are, and what you’re expecting when you see the film, as to how good it ends up being to you. I went in expecting it to be over hyped crap, I came out surprised as to how much I enjoyed it. Personally I didn’t thing it was make you jump in your seat scary. I thinks it’s more Psychological scary. The kind of thing that “might” hit you later on, in the right atmosphere. Great write up, I enjoyed the read.

I was hoping it wasn’t just me who didn’t find the movie scary. On the one hand, I didn’t want to go see it because it was compared to “The Blair Witch Project”, which I didn’t like. On the other, Steven Speilberg thought it was something special, so how bad could it be? Turns out the “scariest” part was the very (alternate) end which he suggested. I waited an hour and half for that?

I was just expecting a good, scary movie rather than blood and guts gore and I didn’t get it. I was disappointed.

I watch “Supernatural” on tv and love the show. I have always loved shows like that. All through “Paranormal Activity”, I kept thinking that the characters should just look up Sam and Dean and ask them what to do! Thank God for Eric Kripke!
