Paranormal Activity 2009 Movie Review
Using simple, low budget effects it’s a classic haunted house horror movie that is filled with relentless suspense.
I’ll admit it i didn’t want to go to sleep the night i watched it i was too shaken and i remember thinking am i going to wake up in the middle of the night tonight and hear something coming from down the hall.
Paranormal Activity is a low budget film and cost around $11,000 to make and is already booming at the box office with the film making 1.6 Million dollars in 2 weeks. The film is made by writer/director/producer/editor Oren Peli, and stars newbies Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat and the couple’s camcorder.
The story is fairly straightforward: Katie and Micah (actors used there real names in the film) take the plunge to move in together and the couple start experiencing paranormal activity in there home for example: lights turning on and off, noises, whispering, objects moving, etc. Katie reveals that this isn’t the first time these things have happened to her revealing that they have happened to her randomly over a period of 30 years.
Katie starts to stress about the reappearances of these mysterious events and micah doesn’t believe her so he invests in a camcorder and some high tech audio gadgets to see if there is really anything there…
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVEN’T SEEN THE MOVIE, STOP READING NOW MAJOR SPOILERS COMING UP!
The couple hire a psychic (Michael Bayouth) who determines that what they are experiencing is not a ghost it is actually a demon that is trying to claim Katie’s soul. The psychic recommends the couple to bring in a “demonologist” to help exorcise the evil spirit – Unfortunately he’s on vacation so in the meantime the psychic breaks down some demon rules for the couple (and us) to understand:
- There is no running from it – leave the house and the spirit will only follow.
- The spirit feeds off negative energy (anger, fear, etc).
- Don’t do ANYTHING to enrage or attract the demon – especially buying a Ouija Board
And if you’ve never seen a horror movie before you should know that rules are often broken by stupid fools asking for trouble.
I thought the film was quite scary as i said before i was a bit shaken although it would be considering i watched it alone, in a dark room, and having the volume turned up. It’s not you typical horror movie with blood and gore its more like what’s not there is what is really scaring you. I hope you enjoyed my review and if you haven’t watched it i highly recommend experiencing it.
