Movies for the Brave: Top 10 Horrifying Movies of All Times

Here are some of the best horror movies from around the world ever made.

I have seen Bozsi Rose post the article “The 10 Best Horror Movies Of The 90s” and was inspired to share also the movies which I think are the best horror movies of all time. I am a major fan of horror movies, and so far I have watched most of the films that recently produced. Here are some of the best horror movies you can ever watch:

Saw I-IV

This can be the one of the best gruesome horror movies I’ve ever seen in my entire life considering the thrilling scenes found within this movie. I have seen the available series in the market and all of them were good. What is very interesting is that mystery on how they are unconsciously captured by the killer. The game played in this movie can also be called as the “Game of Life and Death” or the “Follow The Rules Game”. The player should follow the game or else they’ll die, but then the viewer should just know that the game has no chance of survival. The game master is known to be “Jigsaw Killer” because of the way he cuts the skin of his victims from his victims. Although the movie was a great success worldwide garnering a box office sales of $102,917,772, the movie was highly criticized considering all the immoralities done in the movie, such as merciless amputations of body parts.

Dawn Of The Dead

The best movie about zombies as of the moment in the horror movies. Why? It is because of the effective prosthetics and acting of the artists. If you are going to trace the main reason of why zombies began to multiply, you would see that it was caused by an unknown virus spread by a patient in the hospital. The movie follows the concept that a zombie should be shot on the head in order to kill it.

The Grudge

One of the best Japanese Horror Movie, although the scenes can be quite complicated, you will just learn to understand what the scene means along the way. The story is centered with the house where the mother and son was brutally killed, but later explained in The Grudge 2 that it is  not just the house. The woman that was killed want to seek revenge that is why she casts a curse to the person she wants. I have seen the movie at it really frightened me.

Final Destination 3

There is this girl that has the capability to see the future. The story began on a carnival site where they want to ride on a roller coaster. The girl foresaw that there will be a problem on the trackway of the roller coaster and all that are riding on it will die. All the things she foresaw actually happened and her boyfriend also died on that accident. The bad luck continued until the end where she and her other friend met in a train.

Leather Face: Texas Chainsaw Massacre

There was this family of cannibal people wherein they would slaughter their victims and eat them. There were a couple of people ( actually they are friends) who passed through the vicinity of the State of Texas and all of them were eventually killed at then end despite their effort to survive. This movie is mistakenly perceived to be true to life since the author of the movie stated that the movie was genuine. Actually, there was really no cannibal family. The quotation of the author was just to draw more viewers to view the movie.

A  Horror movie from Thailand with horrifying scenes all through out the movie. The camera guy who was engaged with a woman started to see things that are not supposed to be seen by normal people. It was actually caused by his dead ex-girlfriend who fell in love with him. The at the end tried to end his life, but failed, until the end of the movie the ghost of his ex-girlfriend remained to be literally with him.

Friday the 13th

This horror movie series can be considered to be the longest movie series ever made because of the 10 sequels that followed the first one. This movie was a huge success because it grossed over 39.7 million dollars. The movie contained unique deaths which other movies do not contain. I have watched some of the series and it was really good for those who are looking for slasher horror movies.

The Exorcism Of Emily Rose

This is one is a true to life horror movie. The movie is about a girl being possessed by a many demons. Many have tried to overthrow the devil that possessed the girl but all of them failed, except for the last priests who did exorcism to Emily Rose. There were many revelations brought about by the demons inside the body of the girl but I just do not know whether they were really true.

28 Days Later

A Major Success can be awarded to this movie because of the recognition it gained from different reviewers. It grossed 82.7 million dollars worldwide. It was positively criticized by highly respected bodies. The movie focuses on how the four left characters tried their very best to survive against the deadly virus that was accidentally spread all through the country.

The movie grossed $20,158,970 worldwide. There were some disappointments within the studio because of the weak ticket sales. There were some who said that the movie was just too light to be a horror movie. Well, although the movie did not reach its goal, I could say that the movie was spectacularly done. This is the best movie about dracula.

Shutter? Serious? That was one of the weakest movies I’ve ever seen. I seriously hate the way american cinema is destroying amazing Jap Horrors.

This is the worst selection of “Top 10 Horrifying Movies of All Time” I have ever seen.

    Final Destination 3?!?

You have to be kidding me.

I really don’t think you have seen any of these movies on this list…

I had already watched the 8 of them, except for saw 1-4 and texas massacre. I don’t have the stomach for these two. Does this makes me a ‘Brave’? :)

Thanks ate mae and MMV Abad(ate lang para hindi masyadong formal..hehe..) There are those who say that this list is bad but what can we do if that is my choice of movies. Pakialam nila, inggit lang sila noh kasi hindi pa sila nakakaabot sa hot list..lol. joke :) but actually I must say that final destination is not that frightening, but the way the story was created was so clever that you will not even actually know what really causes their mysterious deaths.
    God Bless You!

Ouch…I think you might have nissed the mark. You must be a young kid (wish I was). Kick back and watch the original Exorcist in a dark room. Heck the Shining was much more frightening than these movies. I agree Final destination was a good movie with a very original idea behind it, just not that scary. If you are going for more recent movies (Grudge is a good choice) you might want to check out Jeepers Creepers and the Descent. Take care

I agree with Kalle, there. An hour and a half of gruesome torture is not horror. Poltergeist is horror, The Shining is horror. The zombie flicks I can get behind, and personally I would have put Silent Hill on the list. The day after I watched that movie I woke up to the storm sirens being tested and screamed.

You have a picture of Christopher Lee under “Dracula” but there was never a hammer film simply called “Dracula”…and seriously… The 10 best horror movies of all time are definetly NOT from the past 20 years like most of these are (certainly not the past 10)…And 2 of the ones up here are re-makes?!?!?! What are you 12 years old?

of all of these SHUTTER is the best.
i havent seen the english version but i have seen the thai version

i strictly recommend you all to watch it…..
it is the most scariest movie ever made… u can search images in net..
those who havent watched shutter have watched nothing

  21. Posted April 16, 2009 at 11:14 am

This list is pretty good. My version would be a little different but to each their own! I loved 28 days later so kudos for including that one! And if you think Americanized Asian horror is good than you should definetly catch the originals!

i’m not sure about shutter, but the grudge is definitely a JAPANESE horror film, not korean.

Like so many other sites on the net, this one only focuses on mainstream horror movies that are so conventional, that in fact only the ranking differs from one site to the next: the list of movies keep being the same (the Grudge, Alien, Exorcism of ER…). What a boring approach, and so much for thinking out of the box! Come on chaps, you can do better than this! What about movies like The Mist, Manhunter, Blair Witch, Cloverfield, Zombie Diaries, Borderland, Wrong Turn 1, Starship Troopers 1 & 3 (crossroad between SF and Horror), The Host, Cannibal Holocaust, The Day After (1983), Razorback…? That’s just a small sample of what’s out there that’s really, really good! Try any of them just for fun.

You truly have no idea about the meaning of horror. I’ll do my best to excuse Saw or MAAAYBE even Final Destination. That’s really pushing it.The simple fact that SHUTTER is on your list of even watchable movies tells me a great deal about your taste. Half the movies you listed are not even worth downloading. The only one I can agree with is 28 Days Later. I do like Dawn of the Dead, but that’s not a spectacular horror film nor an impressive zombie movie. Believe me… I’m all about zombies. Try some better films. Martyrs will blow your mind. It’s a French film. Maybe a classic like The Evil Dead. The Day of the Dead made in 1985 is a must see for the zombie fanatic. You REALLY need to brush up.
