Troy: Movie Review

In the movie Troy, it tells about the Greeks coming over from Greece, at about 1200 B.C.E., to the city of Troy for a war because the Trojans has came over from Sparta to make a piece treaty and this one guy named Paris took home a Greek girl named Helen who was said to be the most beautiful girl in the world, so the war was fought for that girl and for pride. There was a strong warrior named Achilles some people claimed he could not be killed because people claim his mom was a goddess and she was immortal. So during the war the prince of Troy, named Hector, killed Achilles cousin on accident, so Achilles dueled and killed Hector. The Greeks gave a gift to the Trojans and it was a Trojan horse, but the Trojans did not know that there were Greeks in the horse so that night the Greeks inside the horse got out opened the gates for the other Greeks and burned down Troy. In the process Paris sees Achilles comforting a Trojan slave so Paris shoots Achilles with a bow and arrow.

In the movie the war lasted about a month and in real the war lasted nine years, it took so long because the Greeks realized they could not win after a while because the Trojans kept receiving warriors and supplies from neighboring countries so a group of Greeks went and destroyed those countries. The movie has all the people right, like Hector, Paris, Helen, Achilles, and King Priam and what their role in the war was, Hector was commander in chief of the Trojan army also the eldest son of King Priam, Paris loved Helen and was the younger son of King Priam, Achilles was a natural warrior, Helen was taken to Troy by Paris, she was also the most beautiful girl in the world, and King Priam was King of Troy, also father to Paris and Hector. In the movie it tells about how Achilles just went to Troy to have his name go down in history as the greatest warrior in history, this was persuaded by his mom to go with his army called the Myrmidons of about 50 men. As how it really happened was his mom dressed him up as a girl and sent him off to a girl school and when leaders like Odysseus, king of Ithica, came there to try and recruit him, they saw past his disguise and Achilles eagerly joined to fight in the war. In the movie Patroclus, Achilles’ cousin, dressed like Achilles and went to battle but he was killed by Hector. Achilles got revenge on Hector and had a battle with him, which Achilles killed Hector. In real though, Patroclus was Achilles best army man and his closest friend, Hector killed him but instead of disbelief that it was notAchilles and was upset by killing like in the movie, he took the armor Patroclus was wearing, and Achilles did end up battling with Hector and killed him. In the movie it said when Paris killed Achilles, Achilles was comforting a Trojan slave that he had fallen in love with and Paris shot him in the heel then four times in the chest area. But in real it says that Achilles was chasing after a group of warriors trying to kill him and Paris then shot him I the heel, and he died instantly.

The biases in this film are on Hector it shows him as a great leader who was strong, loved his wife, favorited by his father, he was very upset for going out and killing people, just like he killed Patroclus and felt sorry for him that he had killed a boy who should not have been fighting. Also this film shows Achilles’ point of view, he wanted to fight in Troy just so his name would go down in history, and he had no sympathy for anyone he killed until King Priam talked to him about killing Hector, and Achilles agreed to let Hector have a proper burial and funeral. Also this film shows that Achilles just was not a man of killing relentlessly, he saved a Trojan slave of being killed by fellow warriors and fell in love with her and when Troy was burning down he comforted her. The heroes are Paris for killing Achilles, and Hector for showing bravery facing Achilles even though he knew he was no match against him, and Achilles in the second part of the movie because he fell in love and showed sympathy when he killed Hector. He villains are Odysseus, he came up with the idea of using the horse also he was one of the leaders for the Greek side, and Achilles in the first part of the movie, he never showed sympathy for killing anyone and he went to Troy just for himself to go down as the greatest warrior ever. This film shows social views like when Paris took Helen from Sparta which was against the rules. Also political views everything was run by a queen and the king sometimes fought in the wars.

Some cinematic elements used in the film was the armor that the warriors wore it looked old and ancient, it was like nothing is around today, some of the armor was made of leather, others iron. Also the wall surrounding Troy was something that made the movie seem older because it was made of tan stone. The movie also shows how Achilles was with his romance at the beginning of the movie you would always find him in a tent with girls, this shows that he was a romantic probably because he was strong at fighting.

This movie was a combination of emotion arousing, to entertain, and to inform. It was emotion arousing when Achilles killed Hector because Hector was such a good leader and it was sad to seem him die. Also it was emotion arousing when Paris killed Achilles and Achilles’ love was begging Paris not to and to see Achilles die after figuring out he was a good person was very sad. It was entertaining to see all the different tactics on the war that each side used like during the night the Trojans used giant flaming balls in the Greek camp to kill some people. It was also entertaining to watch the war and how good of a warrior Achilles really was. It was informative because the Trojan War really happened so it showed, in a way, how things happened.

This films focus was on the way individuals shaped history. Like Achilles went to the war on the soul benefit of himself, he wanted to go down in history as the greatest warrior of all time. Also like Helen and Paris, Paris taking Helen home with him was one cause of the war because Helen was married to a leader on the Greek side and he came to take her back, but instead Paris fought with him and he died. Then the war just went to a war of country pride.

The movie Troy talks about a war between the Greeks and Trojans. The greatest warrior ever, Achilles, was involved and never showed mercy against the people he killed, until he killed the king of Troy’s son. Then the Greeks used a wooden horse to get inside Troy and burned it to the ground, the king’s other son shot Achilles in the heel killing him, and Troy was taken over.
