So why are we obsessed with these fictional characters whom we seem to only dream and fantasise about. One might say Edwards unwavering devotion to Bella would be something many girls would be envious of, however what would those same girls say once their own caring boyfriend decided to give them that same undying devotion? They would start to call him overbearing, needy, clingy, etc. and would probably end up dumping them. This then rules out Edward and Jacob’s devotion as being what draws us in.
His money maybe? Being a vampire that has wealth (both material wealth and knowledge) that he has accumulated for over a hundred years could explain some Twihard fans infatuation with this perfect fictional soul mate, however this still does not explain how millions of girls allover the world have become thoroughly obsessed not just enthralled because not all of them value wealth and Jacob Black is not as wealthy as his blood sucking counterpart but he receives just as much admiration from the avid readers.
I have thus come to the conclusion that the reason for the joy that we find the hours we spend wrapped in these lovely novels is in the love=] Yes it sounds cliche but that is what it is. It’s what we all want, to find that person who suits us perfectly, our soul mate, the one who in our eyes has no flaw and of cause they feel the same way about us, making it perfect. To find this someone however is not easy and is also sometimes impossible so therefore we emurse ourselves in Bella’s joy at finding her perfect other half and daydream about our own. So we don’t obsess over Edward himself as a character, we more obsess over the joy we would find when we discovered our own Edward:)
