Night Fury: Info on The World’s Fastest Dragon
DISCLAIMER: I do not own Dreamworks, How to Train Your Dragon, or any of the characters/dragons mentioned herein. The only thing I own is the article, in which I take various facts and put them together to make a biologic report on said dragons.
The Night Fury: Fastest, most elusive, and most intelligent of all the known dragon species. Until recently, nothing was known about this night striker. Known as the “offspring of lightning and death itself”, these dragons are deadly, and the most terrifying just because nobody knows what it looks like! This article will do a comprehensive look at a Night Fury, from the deadly retractable teeth and exploding fireballs, to the massive wings and crucial tail fins.
The Night Fury is a “Strike” class dragon, characterized by blinding speed and higher intelligence than other dragon classes. Night Furies are the fastest in their class, as well; but not the strongest in brute strength. They are generally smaller than most other dragons, barring their wings. The said wings are not as big as a Monstrous Nightmare’s, but allow the Night Fury to fly faster, higher, and longer, and even achieve vertical takeoff, because of the massive wing-to-body ratio. Night Furies take advantage of their position as lords of the sky by executing all sorts of swift attacks from the air, then flying back into the shadows and the night without anyone knowing what hit them.
A Night Fury’s head is generally smaller than other dragon species, and is different due to lack of horns of any kind. A small row of scales on the top of its head is the closest said dragon gets to horns. Lack of horns does make flying easier, though. A Night Fury’s teeth are extremely sharp, although not the biggest; a Night Fury’s teeth are generally about an inch across each. These teeth can be retracted so as to make the dragon appear less threatening or smaller, as well as making sure that its dragon fire doesn’t blast its teeth out of its mouth!
Night Fury eyes are truly stunning; similar to a cat’s, its pupils can dilate to a round shape, or contract to tiny slits. The eyes themselves are a piercing green-yellow color, and can strike fear
The fire of this dragon is an unconventional flame. It is a “semi-solid acetylene/oxygen flame” that explodes on impact with any solid object, so a Night Fury has to make sure that its teeth are out of the way, or it may accidentally make its own head explode! This fireball is a blue-purple color. Like most other fireball-shooting dragons (like Gronckles), it has a shot limit, after which it must recharge. For a Night Fury, this shot limit is eight shots.
A Night Fury’s legs are short, and small. Its large wings are excellent for flying, but it has to be careful when on land, because said wings get in the way when running. Night Furies have sharp, but very small, claws in comparison to other dragons. Despite its lack of spikes and claws to use as physical weapons, Furies are very good fighters, taking to the air and using its domain to its advantage.
Night Furies have a long, black tail with four fins on it; two at the base of the tail, and two at the end of it. These fins provide excellent maneuverability. If any of these fins are injured, the Night Fury cannot steer in the air, and as such, the slightest tilt forward, back, or sideways will make it crash. This tail is incredibly strong, from use while flying.
Night Furies will eat various foods, like fish, beef, and sheep. However, Night Furies are picky eaters. If they eat something they don’t like, they will blast it out in a blazing fireball. They have a natural disdain for eel. It is presumed they hunt on their own time, instead of raiding villages for food, because during a raid, it “never lands for food”. Instead, it destroys buildings, notably catapults and guard towers, to defend itself, using its signature attack-under cover of darkness, the Fury flies high into the air above its target, then dives, folding its massive wings around it, free-falling toward its target. Then, as the target nears, it looses a precise blast of explosive flames, destroying the target, and pulls up to fly to a different target. This attack is deadly accurate on non-moving targets, and is precise enough to completely incinerate a target as small as a grapefruit lying on the ground. A Night Fury has never been witnessed missing when it uses this attack.
These dragons usually have a curious personality. They enjoy exploring and discovering new things. They are also very intelligent and can copy things they see easily. They spend most of their free time exploring or flying, for there are no other two things that a Night Fury enjoys so much.
Night Furies are the fastest of dragons, the most intelligent, and the dragons with the largest wing-to-body ratio. Although rather small, their blinding speed, intelillgence, and extremely dangerous signature move more than make up for their lack of size or spikes. When looking for a friend who you can spend time with, a Night Fury is the way to go.
