The Terminal
The Terminal is a 128 minute comedy which revolves a man named Viktor Navorski, who arrives in JFK Airport, to find that his country, Krakozhia, is at war and his visa is no longer valid. Viktor cannot leave the terminal to go back to his own wounded country, nor can he set foot in the U.S.A.
Viktor must wait in the airport, until he is given permission to leave. Left with a phone card, food vouchers and a pager, Viktor is left to live on his own in the airport terminal. With no money and with only the slightest fragment of English, Viktor makes his home at gate 67. The helpless Krakozhian make friends with some airport staff such as the cleaner, Gupta, and the love struck caterer Enrique Cruz. As Viktor waits in the terminal until he can leave, he meets a stewardess named Amelia Warren. He becomes attracted to her, and meets her whenever she flies into JFK. Navorski’s lengthened presence in the airport, becomes a dilemma for Frank Dixon, who does not wish to deal with Viktor anymore.
Tom Hanks, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Stanley Tucci and Chi McBride all feature in this film. Tom Hanks plays the main character Viktor Navorski, and portrays the character with brilliance. Tom combines his body movements, with his facial emotions to create the effect needed. If you thought that Tom’s acting in Forest Gump was good, then you will find that his acting in The Terminal is just as impressive. The movie is directed by Steven Spielberg, a world renown director. Steven Spielberg has directed other movies such as: Jurassic Park, The Unfinished Journey and Catch me if you can.
The film portrays a bright feel to it, which adds to the theme. The theme shows us that we live in a society were we are self-minded. Viktor shows that he is willing to help anybody that needs it. Although when Viktor needs help, nobody will listen or help him.
The script of the film is well written, and contains all that is needed to portray the theme.
The camera work in the film was good, as there were lots of shots showing the raw emotion from Viktor’s face. There were some long shots also that showed how big the airport was, and what Viktor was coming up against.
The sounds from the film released the emotion from the movie. In some points the sound was used to portray a fun and happy feeling around Viktor, although at some points in the film, the sound was used to engage the audience in a sympathetic feel towards the main character.
This Film is defiantly worth a watch. The combination of comedy and drama makes it great for the whole family. If you love Forest Gump or You’ve Got Mail then be sure to watch The Terminal. This movie is given a PG rating, and should be enjoyed by the older people, as well as the younger ones. On the Whole I would give this move a rating of 7 ½ stars. The acting of the film is great, and if you want to release some emotion then this is the film for you.
