The Spirit. How over the top can one movie be you ask? Whether it was Sam Jackson (who I love and really wish was not a part of this film) cutting one of his clones in half with a ninja outfit on (right) or Mr. Jackson wearing a full nazi outfit on as he is dissolving a bunny from the inside out (the eyes at the end were the best), this movie is by far one of the worst things i have seen in awhile.
Frank Miller, who is a brilliant comic icon, is a terrible director. I love the tagline on the commercial about how its from the maker of sin city and 300. Yes he was attached to both of those movies as co-director but only because he owned both the comic books and it was basically a good gesture by the studios to tame his ego. But then out jumps Frank thinking that he actually knows what he is doing and jumps out and delivers this bad looking sin city rip off. Even the great colors we quickly see now and then in sin city has been turned into only being able to see the tie from the spirit in color. Everything else is in black and white or very toned down colors of their own.
Even the beautiful women of the spirit could not save this movie from sinking to the deep waters. Oh that reminds me, the underwater scenes weren’t even filmed underwater. Because that’s just dumb right. He put the actors on ropes and blew big fans at them, and with the help of a green screen, made the illusion that they were underwater. Words cant describe how funny this looks on the finished movie. The actors must of totally forgot to keep their mouths closed, as most of us try to do when we go underwater.
You know what, on second thought, go out and rent this movie cause it is pretty fun to watch as a good comedy on a boring weekday night. Til next time, blaze it if you got it.
