The Pursuit of Happiness

Movies not only serve as a mode of entertainment but also a tool for inspiration. Reading an inspiration book for several hours to understand what it says is better than watching a motivational movie for just 2 hours. I like to share with you one of my favorite movie which moved me a lot. It’s called Will Smith-starrer “The Pursuit of Happiness” which was based on the real life of an Afro-American millionaire – Chris Gardner.

Will Smith plays the role of Chris Gardner a self-made millionaire, entrepreneur, motivational speaker, and philanthropist who, during his early period, struggled with homelessness while raising his toddler son . The movie starts with Chris living in San Francisco with his wife and a very cute son (Will Smith’s real son). Chris started his career as a Medical representative selling X-ray like apparatus. He wants to earn money and become rich but he doesn’t know how to do it. Due to his inability to pay his housing rent, parking charges etc.. his wife leaves him. But he retains his son with him, since he loves him very much.

Chris joins a ‘Stock Broker’s Training academy’ after a long struggle. He is paid just 500+ dollars per month. In a particular scenario, Chris and his son become homeless. So they decide to stay in a railway station, but to their misfortune a policeman approaches them in suspicion. On seeing that, Chris and his son get into a lavatory and hide themselves. The policeman strikes the door hard to open it. Will Smith portrays the human emotions beautifully in that scene. Another notable scene in the movie is, Chris and his son stay in a dormitory, and while he is about to start reading the book about Stock Broker’s, which he considers as his bible, the power goes off but without giving up he sits and reads it in moon light which penetrates from a small window. There are a lot of similar inspirational scenes in the movie. Finally, Chris becomes a Stock broker and earns more money. The real life hero Chris Gardner is one of the richest persons in the stock market. He earned billions of money and is a notable person in the market arena. Self-confidence, intelligence and hard work of Chris Gardner portrayed by Will Smith in the movie will be a great motivation to all. This is a must watch movie, which was nominated for several awards in Oscar.

The moral of the story is “Hard work never fails.”
