“The Adjustment Bureau” Worth Seeing?

A chance meeting between senate candidate David Norris ( Matt Damon ) and dancer Elise (Emily Blunt ) has romantic sparks flying between them. They try to be together but it seems destiny has other plans. There is a life plan for each of them and “angels” in the form of men in hats and suits do their best to make sure they stick to it. In order for this to happen they must never see each other again. As you can imagine, Norris does not like this plan and fights his destiny to be with the woman he loves.

This is a film that had me hooked in from the start. The amazing New York scenery coupled with the sci fi action of the “angels” teleporting through doors, plus there are chases aplenty with romance and yearning thrown in to give the plot emotional pull.

The theological aspect is a very interesting one with the idea that  a chairman ( God? ) has written us a life plan and that although we do have the free will to make small choices we cannot change our fate. The unlucky couple do have one ally in the form of Harry who has more empathy than the other angels. The danger is, that if Norris tells anyone about the Adjustment Bureau he will be re programmed ie; have his memory wiped and personality altered forever. His friends and family will think he has gone mad while he himself will be little more than an automaton.

The film does keep the suspense and action right up to the very end. I think it is definately an enjoyable ride and well worth the price of the ticket.
