Short Eyes a Movie

In 1977, the movie Short Eyes, Came about hard and brusque. The movie is based on actual prison life with a few unknown B movie type of actors, but many prisoners in the movie realistic druggies, thugs and other criminals. It is the type of movie that is nakedly candid. Extremely graphic. it’s a great movie, although some parts may be a little upsetting for viewers. It is not a documentary, it was an actual movie about life behind bars.

Short eyes was filmed in an actual prison in New York. The inmates all played their roles well and many actors were hoods, junkies and gang members. A lot of the prisoners did violent things and I am going to leave that out, because as mentioned above, the movie has some upsetting moments as well as sexual issues that I would rather leave out.

But what really put the icing on the cake was when A child abuser came into the prison. He was in that prison, because he abused little children.

I’ll call him Rudy. When the guards and the inmates found out that Rudy was a child abuser, they gave Rudy a living hell. If anybody goes to prison for rape or child abuse, they have it the hardest. The inmates simply don’t tolerate sex offenders in prison.The inmates labeled Rudy “Short eyes,” because sex offenders have eyes for children. And many children are short in height, there fore child abusers are called “short eyes,” Because they only have eyes for children.

The inmates kick Rudy around like there is no tomorrow. They spit in his food, they beat him up every day.  In general, Rudy suffers a great deal from the abuse that the other inmates dished out.

Rudy tells one of the inmates who feels sorry for Rudy, all about his child abusing years and how he abused children. The inmate which I will call Bernado, listens the whole time with pity and empathy while Rudy spills out everything he did to his victims.

In the end of the movie, Rudy gets killed by the inmates with a knife. It was after Rudy’s death when the guards and inmates found out that Rudy was pulled out by mistake in a line up. So therefore, Rudy was innocent the whole time.
