Movie Review for Precious
Oprah loves this movie, but somehow, I felt the hype was overrated. This movie is based on a novel about an impoverished, overweight African American teen pregnant with her second child. What they don’t tell you is that child is fathered by her own father. Ewww. Read my review about this movie and help fiance my textbooks this semester. Every cent helps.

What they don’t tell you is that child is fathered by her father. Ewww. I thought this was going to be an inspirational tale about a girl overcoming hardship and that it was based on a true story. But no. The movie’s inspiration comes from a fictional novel called “Push ” written by someone named Sapphire.
What I liked about the movie was the great acting, interesting plot lines and compelling dialogue. Monique is magnificent in her role as this psychotic cruel mother. At one point, Monique’s character tries to kill Precious by throwing a tv down the stairs on top of her.
What I didn’t like was the sad ending. I won’t spoil it, but after watching for two hours, I expected a resolution and was disappointed when there wasn’t one. Maybe they were trying to make a statement about real life, and having a sad ending was more realistic.
If you want to see this, don’t expect the best movie in life.
*** out of 5 stars for me
