Would You be Bedazzled by Seven Wishes?

Liz Hurley claims to be the Devil and offers Elliot seven wishes in exchange for his soul.

Bedazzled is a very funny, colorful and well made production. Liz Hurley is hilarious as the Devil who offers Elliot Richards (Brendan Fraser) 7 wishes in exchange for his mortal soul. There’s more than a touch of Faust here.

He has to sign a contract to get his wishes.

Elliot is not much of a success with the ladies and tends to be the butt of jokes from his colleagues, so when Liz comes on to him, he can’t believe his luck. He has had a secret crush on co-worker Alison Gardner for ages and he has tried all ways to make her notice him.

Elliot wishes to be very rich and ends up as a Columbian drug baron who can speak fluent Spanish. Then he asks to be made more sensitive and ends up crying at everything from a sunset to a poem. Alison doesn’t want this,of course, it’s too much.

He asks to me made extra smart and ends up super intelligent but gay. Then he decides that perhaps he could attract Alison if he was a basket ball star but ends up lacking in certain areas. He’s still not what Alison wants.

When everything fails and Elliot gets arrested for causing a disturbance in a church he ends up in jail where a stranger tells him that he couldn’t make a deal with the devil for his soul because its not his to give, it’s God’s. So, Elliot confronts the Lady Devil with this and is freed from the contract.

There’s lots of Hollywood glitz and glamor around the different roles played by Brendan Fraser but her caries them off quite amusingly, if not convincingly.

This film runs for ninety minutes and it is really funny. It’s a good one to sit down and relax with. Although Brendan Fraser acts out all his different roles in an amusing and competent way, in my book, Liz Hurley gets all the prizes. She is sexy, hilariously funny and convincing as the Prince, or rather, the Princess of Darkness.
