The Hangover

A not-so-typical review.

“We lost Doug…”
“What? We’re getting married in 5 hours!”
“Yea aah… That’s not gonna happen…”

Insert hysterical laughter.

Simple comic equation. 4 guys, each with their own perks + alcohol + Vegas = FUN. And a massive hangover, apparently.

Film club watched The Hangover last night. Note to self, don’t eat popcorn in a scene where you know beforehand that you will laugh. Accidents can and will happen.

Its about a guy who’s getting married and whose friends decide to throw him a bachelor party in Vegas. All is fun and games and as soon as Alan enters the scene, the game is on.
There is drinking and then… there is a hangover. And no Doug.
Adventure follows while searching for said Doug and little clues are unveiled as to what happened the night before.
There is a tiger in the bathroom (and apparently tigers like pepper but don’t like cinnamon), there is a baby in the closet (who looks ubber cute in shades). There is a chicken in the room and there is Mike Tyson.

“I don’t think i’ve ever been this hangover before…”

No shit, dude.

Its an easy and funny movie but not a free-laugh. Dialogues were well though of and it has a continuity that i appreciate, just when you think the line is done, more follows. I’m thinking its the outcome of a good balanced dose of well written dialogues and improvisation.
Alan (played by Zak Galifianakis) is king in that. “Rappies” is engraved in my head. Also “roofies”.

“He was a ruh-tard.”

Phil (played by Bradley Cooper, seen before in He’s just Not that into you) is the should-have-kept-myself-single-because-i-fucking-hate-my-life guy.
There is always one, right? The bachelor who doesn’t believe in marriage, is always in for sex and puts partying above all else. Phil is that guy… but he is married, so this was in fact, a nice detail as far as story building goes.

“…he’s like a gremlin. Comes with instructions and shit.”

Stu… oh dearest Stu (played by Ed Helmes) trapped in a weird relationship that stretches as long as the movie, gets himself in yet… another weird relationship. Again, could have been just “the dork guy” but he swears a lot. A lot.

“We’re not gonna leave the baby in the room. There’s a fucking tiger in the bathroom!”

And then Doug. Mysteriously vanished Doug (played by Justin Bartha).

None of them are actually that stereotyped and that is brill. This could have easily gone wrong had they chosen to do that, which they didn’t and that is why i will watch this one again when it comes out on DVD.

Car crashes and insane fight scenes are bizarre yet believable. I could watch Phil being tackled a million and probably would still find it hilarious.

And because Stu was a great revelation, here’s a song, a la Flight of the Conchords.

Wait… that would be a spoiler. Ill get it up when you all confirm you’ve seen it. Because you should.

“Toodooloo mother fuckeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers!” [Ken Jeong is "Mr Chow" and he kicks butt. Literally.]
