Stand by Me Movie: Chris and Gordie

The similarities and differences of traits between the two characters Chris and Gordie in the movie “Stand By Me”.

In the movie “Stand By Me” Gordie and Chris share a lot of similarities. They symbolize sensitivity, bravery and kindness.  Chris and Gordie demonstrate sensitivity when they admit their feelings about what others think of them. This happens when they are in the woods camping, and they take turns keeping guard. Chris and Gordie talk to each other and express their feelings that their parents and others don’t respect or care for them.  Both characters defiantly show Bravery when they find the dead body and Ace shows up. Chris and Gordie stand up to Ace together and prevent him from claiming the dead body. Surprising enough that Chris didn’t back out of Ace’s way, Gordie had pointed a gun at Ace and had smart talked him by singling him out. Last but not least they demonstrate kindness when they are walking through the train tracks and also when they get to their houses, they both help encourage each other out to be the best they can be in the future to become successful in life. All in all, both characters have a lot in common.

Although Chris and Gordie demonstrate similarities surprisingly they also have good and bad differences. Chris shows protectiveness, recklessness and immaturity while Gordie shows confidence cautiousness and maturity. Chris demonstrates protectiveness when he told Gordie that he will protect him like a father when his parents never cared about him. This brings confidence in Gordie that at least some people care about him even though his brother died. Gordie authenticates cautiousness when he checks the vibration of the train tracks for an incoming train, yet Chris shows recklessness when he just estimates when the next train will come and crosses the train tracks. Finally Gordie demonstrates maturity when he walks through the pound without acting like a child. While Chris starts acting immature and splashes Teddy and Vern. This act also shows us that Gordie takes the mission to find the dead body seriously and Chris just wants a journey that involves fun. All in all these characters may be the same but they just so happen to have some differences as well.
