First thing’s first. This is a chick flick. Although it’s one of those chick flicks that if your other half suggests going to see you needn’t panic as it’s actually rather good. The film itself is set in the same kind of style as Love Actually in that it follows the paths of several people connected to each other in some way as they try to gain some understanding of dating, love and marriage. The characters are all likeable in some way, even if you don’t like what they’re doing you kind of feel for them none the less. The biggest fault I could find is that one of the characters refers to Sarah Jessica Parker as being ’sexy’ – which led to a few funny looks from other cinema goers when I laughed so hard I nearly spat popcorn everywhere!
Surprisingly the bigger name actors are held back for the smaller roles and allows for fresher faces to try and steal the movie Ginnifer Goodwin and Justin Long especially getting more screen time than the likes of Kris Kristofferson, Drew Barrymore, Ben Affleck, Scarlet Johansson, Jennifer Aniston and Jennifer Connelly. As you can tell it is an impressive line up and you do have to feel there are comparisons to be made with Love Actually in both the style and the sheer number of famous faces in one movie. Although the former film is, in my opinion, the better of the two this one is certainly very enjoyable and would be a good choice for a date movie with Valentine’s day fast looming!
