Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids The Cartoon

Thoughts.

When I was a little girl, I used to love Fat Albert and The Cosby Kids Cartoon, which aired back in the  in the seventies at eleven am every Saturday. I found the show to be suspenseful and extremely funny. And I loved it at the end of the show, when they sang and played music out of objects they found in the junk yard.

The cartoon Fat Albert, was based on Bill Cosby when he was growing up, in a poor neighborhood in Philadelphia. He did most of the voices of the cartoon characters except a few of them were done by Jan Crawford, Eric Suter and Lou Scheimer.

The show was humored by music and of course humor itself. But there were serious issues as well such as family issues and drugs.

My two most favorite episodes that I can remember is one episode where a kid on the show had to go to the hospital to have his tonsils taken out. And he was told by his doctor, that because of the pain of having his tonsils out, all he was allowed eat was to eat ice cream–all the ice cream that he could eat. So when he got out of the hospital, he was bragging to the gang, claiming that now that he had his tonsils removed he could eat all the ice cream he wanted. That gave the gang a hot idea. They were set on pretending to need to have their tonsils out, so this way, they could have all the ice cream they wanted. So they went to the hospital, pretending to be in dire need to have their tonsils taken out. And that’s when the doctor realized that the gang was only faking. And after that there was a wild goose chase, between the doctor and of course the gang.

Another episode that I liked was a part where was a boy, who liked to play jokes on people, some jokes were below the belt. When the joker played a trick on the wrong people two hoodlums that you don’t mess with, the boy got beat up. And he learned that a joke wasn’t a joke if you hurt somebody.

One more favorite episode is about a runaway girl named Brenda. She was a runaway and when she stole the gangs television, it got her into deeper and deeper trouble.

Oh Well, they say that good things don’t last long and  to me,

I miss Saturday morning cartoons like we had when we were kids. I had to buy a DVD set for my kids to actually experience Looney Tunes like we had it when we were little. Gone are the days where you knew the difference between a cartoon character hitting another with a frying pan and the real thing. Makes me sad.
