Click

Just point and click! Warning: May give away too much information for those who have not seen the movie; So- Watch at your own risk!

When I first heard of the movie, and saw the previews I thought Click was going to be a dumb movie.  I finally caught it on TV recently and changed my mind.  There are parts of the movie that will bring you to tears (if you are the avid crier at sad, and touching movies).

Adam Sandler played Michael; a father, business man, and workaholic, who was just wanting to make partner at his firm as fast as possible.  Michael went to Bed Bath and Beyond looking for a universal remote control for a television; where he found  a room  labeled “beyond” and took a gander into the room finding a scientist of sorts.  Morty, as he is called (who seemed to be an angel) gave Michael an advanced universal remote control and the power to make his life so much easier.  Does it make it any easier?

The Universal Remote Control

The control gave Michael the power to program any part of his life.  Imagine watching a movie; you can rewind, fast forward, skip chapters, change the color values that you see on screen, and so on.  The remote gave Michael the power to do those things in his own every day life.

What he did not know in receiving the remote and using it; the remote would go on autopilot and  fast forward  through things he had skipped through in the past.  He used to fast forward through family dinners, meetings at work, and arguments with his wife.  Once the remote went on autopilot, all of those things would automatically be skipped.   When they kept skipping, time would just keep flying by.  He did not know if he would wake up the next day, or ten years later.

The movie does have it’s comedic moments, no doubt.  However, they do not overshadow the profound moments that touch hearts.  You see Michael in the hospital, after the remote automatically started fast forwarding.  He learned that he had cancer, which he would have known if he had not been fast forwarding through time.

Finally at the end, the movie gets you, and leaves you astonished.  At first you see Michael dying on the parking lot cement, telling his family his final thoughts, then out of nowhere Michael is alive and young back at the Bed, Bath and Beyond store.  I felt so sorry for the Michael character because he had fast forwarded through so many years and lost so much time.  So naturally, I was glad to learn it was all dream.

For those who like a little background information on films, this is for you.

Frank Coraci directed Click, which was released in 2006. Steve Koren, and Mark O’Keefe were the brilliant writers on the film. Steve has before writter for Seinfield, Bruce Almighty, and Evan Almighty. You may recognize Mark from Evan and Bruce Almighty as well.

What are your thoughts on this film?  What would you do if you had a universal remote and the power?

Great article! What I would like to know is your own thoughts about the movie. You wrote the revue. On my part, I wouldn’t use it just for my own benefit; there are so many things that need fixing. But… then again, why should we interfere with the cosmic plan, are we wiser than the intelligence that created millions of worlds like ours?
Thanks for what you’ve written. Regards,

    Hugo
