Why We Love Vampires
Vampires are all the rage these days. With the success including Buffy, Angel, True Blood and Twilight, cult TV and movie has never seen more of the blood suckers on screen. So what’s the big appeal?
here are a lot of reasons that we flock to TV and movies to see vampires on screen. Five of the reasons why these creatures of the night capture our imagination, more than other creatures that go bump in the night are:
1. Humanity
Unlike other creatures that go bump in the night, vampires are almost human. It’s easy to relate to a vampire compared to other beasties; they look human, speak and interact and feel emotions similar, if not entirely the same, as we do. They even were human before becoming vampires, which gives us mere mortals a basis to relate to them

2. Familiarity
We’ve all seen vampire shows of one form or another and we know what to expect. While there may be some surprises, we know we’re talking about a fanged creature that drinks blood and has an aversion to sunlight. There have been so many vampire productions we all know what we’re getting ourselves into, so watch with anticipation.

3. The Fright Factor
For all that we know it’s coming, there’s still something terrible when a vampire bears it’s fangs. The human figure becoming so unhuman sends a chill down the spine that manages to be both horrific and awe inspiring.

4. Mystery
While we all know what a vampire is, there’s always a new twist on the creature with every new writer. Whether it’s Twilight’s Edward Cullen a romantic teen role or Blade as the vigilante hunting the other vampires, there’s a new twist with every production which helps keep the critters interesting and exciting.

5. Sex Appeal
The very nature of a vampire is full of sex appeal. Their almost human nature gives them the opportunity to be portrayed as sexual creatures, and biting the neck of their victims is so close to a kiss… We love the idea of romance with the fanged fiends.

With all of this favouring vampires over other things that go bump in the night, is it any wonder that we’ve seen the string of vampire successes in cult shows?
