Why Watch a 3D Movie?

As far as I am concerned 3d movies are here and will continue to be around for many more years. But are they really that great? Are the worth the extra dollars?

It seems at this point in time 3D movies are taking over the silver screen as almost every movie that comes out these days is offered in 3D and a few others in special theatres are shown in IMAX, which is 3D on steroids.

Personally, I despise 3D movies and will not pay the extra few dollars to sit there with goofy looking glasses and hardly seeing anything go and pop out at you. I know many people that beg to differ this and many other people that love to see these special types of movies and I just don’t understand how.

Recently, me and my family headed to California and we went to Universal Studios. It was great fun at times but other times it was just plain stupid. Mainly because now it is no longer 3D movies and shows. It is 4D, with moving seats, water spraying. It makes you feel like you are there at the set. Personal opinion is that 4D is worse then 3D. The objects pop at you too far and the feeling of not knowing what is going to hit you next is always on your mind.

If theatres start to add moving seats and water shooters in the theatre I will not pay. However, if I could see a 3D movie without the glasses I just might be more lax about this whole subject.

But for now 3D movies are something that is not for me.

When I was young I watched a horror movie in 3D it was terrifying but fun. Never watched another one though.

I love the discription of IMAX as being 3D on steroids :D

And wow, you have to pay extra to watch a 3D film in America? Here in England, you don’t have to pay extra (I don’t think so at leas) and I quite like the glasses (which we get to take home – woo hoo!). I actually love 3D – I watched Final Destination 4 on 3D and it was superb, I mean, just thing popping right at you and jumping when something sprung itself out at you, it was gooood but sometimes, I feel 3D is a bit overrated.

I must agree with the 4D thing though, I don’t know how much it has been perfected but about 3-5 years ago I went to one of these 4D things and I walked out of it thinking it was such a waste of money.

Who knows maybe in the future 3D and 4D will reach the pinnacle of the desired effect that they are meant to produce and maybe 2D will be a thing of the past? Good article, love reading anything from you Littlekid ;)

Nikita, you do have to pay extra in England about £2 normally.

OP, I’ve seen a few films in 3D but bar Avatar the experiences were all somewhat underwhelming. I think for me a lot of it is to with the technology at its current state, which I hope will improve over the next few years as 3D becomes more popular. I find that I get slight headaches when watching it and being a glasses wearer I find wearing a normal pair of glasses and 3D glasses actually quite hurts after a long film as they are simply too heavy. So a few minor hitches for them to sort out yet.
