Why I’m Not Impressed by the Alice in Wonderland Trailer

A well intentioned rant as to why Tim Burton ruins children’s stories and why this new trailer failed to excite me.

A big deal has been made in the past few days about the new Tim Burton movie, “Alice in Wonderland”, with Johnny Depp, as a trailer has leaked on the Internet. I, for one, don’t care.

In my mind, its been 15 years since Tim Burton made a decent flick (but, if you ask the German’s, who love “Mars Attacks!”, it’d be more like 13 years). “Ed Wood” hit the big screen in 1994 and that’s the last time Johnny Depp should have ever worked with this rich, art school DB.

As referenced by a director I find equally as loathsome (Kevin Smith), Burton has forever appeared in his head shots with the most pretentious Beret resting atop his smug looking face. Yes, we understand, Tim. You went to Art School.

First, Tim had to throw Billy Crudup in that terrible piece of Ewen McGregor trash, “Big Fish”, which was just a horrible excuse for a fairy tale. Then, he had to go and rip the soul out of a brilliant Gene Wilder performance by distastefully remaking “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”. He forced Johnny Depp to look like a pedophile and thought it would be OK, just because he had the foresight to change the movie back to the orignal name of the novel. Lastly, this turd of a remake included a CGI version of the Oompa Loompa’s that I’d rather just never talk about again.

Don’t blame me if I’m not too thrilled to see him destroy another brilliant story from my childhood. Sorry, if I don’t want to see Johnny Depp embarrass himself, again, just for the sake of his über pretentious friend. Tim Burton should just shell out cash for movies, these days, instead of actually trying to make them his own “creative” mind. His talent chips have been cashed in, as a director. After all, he’s been outdone by Tom Petty…well, at least according to MTV:

Last note,

Ok, I never saw “Sweeny Todd”, so I can’t be really sure about his lack of good movies in recent years…but, if his attempt at Roald Dahl’s masterpiece is any indication, I’ll ask for my money back before I even get to the theater.
