When a tropical storm force in the deepest caves, they have to fight raging waters, land and rampant deadly panic in their search for an escape route to the unknown sea. Master diver Frank McGuire explored the South Pacific Caves Esa-ala for several months. But when its output is split into a flash flood is the team of Frank, whose 17 year old son, Josh and financial Carl Hurley forced to radically alter plans. With dwindling supplies, the crew navigate a maze underwater make it out. Soon they are faced with the inevitable question: can they survive or will they be trapped forever?
It is as if James Cameron invented 3D especially for this movie. To enter the world of cave diving in 3D is a true cinematic experience. Although Cameron is the PE and not the director (my hat’s off to work as director Alister Grierson) there Cameronesque features. The characters are not standard Hollywood good guys and bad guys. They have their flaws. are supposed to love? I think not. Are we supposed to trust them, but in adversity. The parent-child relationship is the backbone of the story and is planted in this area. Great places together and it must be lived on the big screen (it would be amazing in IMAX). Great also to see a film shot in New Guinea. I liked it.
