Up (2009) Film Review

A review of the 2009 film “Up”.

Up (2009)

An animated adventure film by Pete Docter and Bob Peterson

Marked 8 out of 10

I must admit I do love this genre of film and I might be a little biased, but I would highly recommend anyone to watch it. Pixar have excelled again and topped their previous performance, by making Up quite unforgettable.  I’m only marking it 8 out of 10 because I want Pixar to keep making these..!

There are such funny moments and some specific silly little things in this film that will actually make you remember it for days. Or you might even start imitating some of the ‘sound effects’ as they are guaranteed to make your friends laugh.. Or annoy them for that matter.. The big bird Kevin definitely being one of the funniest characters..  And the main character Carl with a long lost but revived lust for adventure is certainly somebody anyone could sympathise with.  All that is even apart from the beautiful image of Carls house floating above the clouds suspended below hundreds of balloons, bound for new territory.

Here’s a brief storyline, that won’t ruin the experience for you.. It all starts with Carl being very young, falling in love with Ellie. Together they have a dream of adventure which somehow never becomes reality, as years go by. This part is particularly well pictured in the film. Then one day, unfortunately without Ellie, Carl decides it is time to act, and he embarks on his adventure, taking his house with him, whatever the cost. A journey full of dangers follows, during which he does get to meet the famous explorer Charles Muntz about whom he used to dream with Ellie.. This is where things don’t go quite as expected, mainly because of big bird Kevin, giving Carl a few headaches! Luckily Carls stowaway Russell, a funny young Chinese scout, encourages him not to give up, and together they bring this pretty film to a wonderful end.

Oh and did you know, dogs can only talk when they’re wearing their special collar? And failing collars can be quite embarrassing?
