Top Five Movies From the 90’s for the Generation X
Top Five Movies from the 90’s from a Generation X member.
The Generation X is now a decade older from the 80’s and it’s choice of movies has evolved.
Jurassic Park (1993)

You didn’t have to be a sci-fi fan to love this movie. It is the story of a mad scientist (Richard Attenborough) that invites a group of scientist to visit a dinosaur’s attraction park. Because of an act of sabotage, the dinosaurs are on the loose and the scientists will help contain them. This movie is not just about the story. It is about the special effects and the dinosaurs. With the whole package (movies, books and games), Jurassic Park earned more than $900,000,000. Starring Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, Samuel L. Jackson. The franchise has 3 movies. The Matrix (1999)

Another movie that is not exactly set in the now and here. The movie depicts a future where the reality that is perceived by humans is actually, the Matrix : a simulated reality run by machines. Neo is a computer programmer / hacker that will be drawn into a rebellion against the Matrix. With Keannu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Laurence Fishburn. Again, another movie that changed the way we saw action on the big screen : it made the “bullet time” and the “time-slice” effects popular. The movie won many prizes. Amongst them: one Oscar, two Academy Awards and a Saturn Award. (http://whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com/)
Pulp Fiction (1994)

A winning mix of violence and dark humour. The movie is all about mobsters, fringe players, small-time criminals and a mysterious briefcase told by three different storylines that sometimes overlaps each other. Bruce Willis, John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Eric Stoltz and Rosanna Arquette are amongst the movie’s actors. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110912/)
Forrest Gump (1994)

We follow the main character, Forrest Gump, from childhood to adulthood. During his journey, he will experiment some of the most influencing events of the late 20th century. The appeal of Forest Gump, is that he is mostly unaware of the significance of those event because of his intellectual disability. With Tom Hanks, Robin Wright Penn, Gary Sinise and Sally Field. Titanic (1997)
Image via Wikipedia
A romantic/historic movie that tells the love story of Rose DeWitt Bukater and Jack Dawson (Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio) aboard the ill-fated voyage of the ship. The love story might be fictional but not the fate of the Titanic. James Cameron, co-producer and co-editor, did a wonderful job with the historical side of the movie. He did extensive researches of the decoration and the passengers of the boat, even of the small little details like what kind of silverware was used. The movie was well received by the critics, winning eleven Academy Awards and becoming the highest-grossing film of all time, with a total over $1.8 billion.
