This is going to be a five part note going over the best American movies to come out in the past ten years (since 2000.) Feel free to comment and tell me why the movies i picked suck. Even generic comments are welcomed, such as: (haha nice!) or (This is cool.) or (Hey I’ve seen (insert movie here) and its terrible!) If a movie you like and think I should like is not on this list its probably because its not American or because it came out in 1999 or earlier or because you like dumb movies, or because I’ve never seen the movie because I very well can’t tell you how good a movie is if i haven’t seen it now can I?
So without further ado. The top fifty movies.
And here. We. Go.
50.
District 9 (2009)
This movie just came out. It is about aliens and what not. There is guts and people blowing up in this movie. It was produced by Peter Jackson (for those of you who don’t know thats the guy who directed LOTR (for those of you who don’t know that stands for Lord of the Rings)). If you like Sci-Fi movies you should watch this movie. Its sort of like War of the Worlds with the roles reversed (humans threatening aliens). It has a very cool documentary feel to it, and it sort of reminded me of Cloverfield as well.
The following is a quote from this movie (graciously provided by IMDB):
Pam Byrnes: I had no idea you could milk a cat!
Greg Focker: Oh, you can milk just about anything with nipples.
Jack Byrnes: I have nipples, Greg, could you milk me?
This is a funny movie. It has Ben Stiller and Robert Dinero in it.
This movie has a very good score. Its directed and written by M. Night Shyamalan. He did the same thing with that great movie the Sixth Sense. I had the “big twist” spoiled for me long before I’d seen this movie and I still enjoyed it. Joaquin Phoenix is in it. He has a scar on his upper lip.
This movie is about a baseball player played by Dennis Quaid (who is in a lot of movies… but I can’t think of any good ones). Its one of those cheerful (and by cheerful i mean you may want to cheer once or twice during the movie but are afraid people might look at you) Disney movies that is just a bundle of joy to watch. Why? Cause its a true story. I love movies based on true stories.
Tom Hanks talks to a Wilson Volleyball named Wilson. Enough said. Wait…not yet. …. WILSON! Ok. Now enough has been said. This is another cheerful movie. But. This movie wasn’t based on a true story.
45.
Remember the Titans (2000)
Denzel Washington is in a Disney movie? What? Oh ya, he did that football movie. This one is based on a true story. That makes it cheerful…remember? from entry 47? Anyway…Hayden Panieterre (sp?) is also in this movie. And shes not a cheerleader…! Well…she’s the coach’s daughter..so sort of…ya, she is. That poor, short, type-casted girl.
44.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)
The Greeks are a funny people. Thats why this movie is funny. I remember this being one of the first Romantic movies I actually enjoyed. Don’t hate.
43.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
This movie was a great adaptation of probably the best children’s book ever. I had a crush on the girl who played Susan for about two hours (the duration of the film). And the kid who plays Edmund makes you hate him but some how feel good when he becomes good again. Which is the point. So ya. And Liam Neeson is Aslan and that kicks ass.
This is one of those animated movies that is perfect for a bus/car ride. Cause you don’t really have to pay attention all that much, or if you’re having trouble hearing you can still tell exactly what is going on. This movie also leads me to ask some in depth questions: Was their ever really an ice age? Can animals talk? Is that squirel ever going to get to keep that nut? Are they going to stop making dumb sequels that only people like Jordan Maphet are going to see? (I have no idea if Jordan Maphet saw the sequels. I bet he did though.)
Denzel Washington is also in THIS movie. I like him. He is a good actor. Nay a great actor Nay an excellent actor. Nay, that last nay. Just a great actor. His character in this movie is so hard he would be the hardest character of all time if he wasn’t …well… you’ll just have to watch the movie i don’t want to spoil anything. But seriously. This guy’s a great character and is great alongside Ethan “The Hawk” Hawke.
Look for Part 2 (40-31)
