“The Sitter” Movie Review

Movie review for the movie "The Sitter"

When I selected to see this movie I thought I was going to get some dumb gross out comedy in the vain of “Superbad”. The poster I saw for the movie certainly made me think that was what I was going to see something similar to it.

However  I was mislead as “The Sitter” may well be a bit of a dumb movie but it did not rely on gross out bits to keep it going. The plot itself is quite ludicrous Noah (Jonah Hill) has to do a babysitting job looking after his mothers friends 3 unruly children. In the process of looking after them he gets mixed up with a drug dealing gangster Karl (Sam Rockwell), as well as various other robberies and ludicrous situations. All of this happens of course whilst Noah is looking after the three children. The plot is wrapped up way to quickly with one or two unanswered questions at the end, the one that bugged me the most is the unresolved relationship issues between Noah and his father.

Although this movie is stupid it does have a good point about it and that it the movie does have some emotional heart, although it does feel like it has been crowbarred in. Noah’s relationship with the kids is a nexus of this emotion as he helps each one of them overcome the personal issue that has made their behavior so unruly.

As for the acting the only person that stands out is Jonah Hill who basically continues playing the same type of character he always plays. Although look out for Kylie Bunbury who plays Roxanne, as I got a feeling we will be seeing more of her in the future.

Its not a great movie and I doubt it will draw in enough of an audience to be out long.

I give this movie a 6 out of 10
