The Most Beautiful Movies Ever Made: Drive (2011)
We have been making movies for over 100 years. Every now and again a movie comes along that visually blows you away, has the most incredible soundtrack, or simply has the most beautiful of stories.
Today’s movie is the 2011 smash hit Drive. The story ticks all three boxes, it is not only visually stunning, but it has an incredible soundtrack and while being incredibly dark, has a beautiful storyline of a love that never really gets chance to reach fruition.

The story follows an un-named wheel-man who participates in a robbery that goes tragically wrong. On a parallel to this incident (although completely related) he meets the beautiful Irene and falls in love with both her, and her son.

Despite it’s title, there is very little driving in drive. Instead a movie that will warm you’re heart, while at the same time managing to become a sort of milkshake that’s contents were Manhunter, Scarface, and Into The Night.

Directed by Nicholas Winding Refn, and photographed by Newton Thomas Sigel, every single frame of the movie is beautifully captured. So much time is made in making every single moment on film looking perfect.

Its more than just the music however, the man behind the beautiful score for Twin Peaks Angelo Badalmenti, with a large portion of the musical numbers delivered by Cliff Martinez (Contagion). But it’s a track by legendary Italian composer Riz Ortalani (Cannibal Holocaust, Cyclone) entitled Oh My Love (which features Katyna) that accompanies the above scene, that really blows you away.

Every wondered what lies at the end of the reservoir featured in the movie Grease? Now you find out.

Grease despite it’s beauty, is not a family movie, it’s incredibly violent and bloodthirsty with scenes of extreme violence. Yet given the framing, and the surrounding scenes, the blow is softened.

The night shots of LA are by far the most mind blowing images that you will take away from the movie, Levels of smog have been captured by the street lights and car beams.

You really feel as if you are in a helicopter circling the city.

Another one I’ve missed. Will have to check this one out.
When it comes to visually stunning movies and soundtracks I’m hoping you might give “The Lord of The Rings” trilogy a mention?
