The Fighter is a movie that is based on a true story. This movie is about Irish boxer Micky Ward in his early years and is being trained by his brother Dicky Eklund who was also a professional boxer when he was younger. Micky is training hard but Dicky is very rarely on time and is very unreliable because he is always drinking or somewhere else instead of training Micky.
Micky and Dicky are both arrested and instead of Micky helping Dicky out again and Dicky ends up going to jail and Micky is now being trained by Mickey O’Keefe and he is winning regularly now. In one of the fights he steps back from what Mickey O’Keefe had been teaching him and used the training Dicky had given him to win over his opponent and earned the chance to fight for the championship.
Dicky gets out of jail and goes back to his brother Micky and Micky tells O’keefe that he was using both his and Dicky’s training to win the fights and wanted both of them to be training him. Micky’s girlfriend Charlene left him and so did Mickey O’Keefe and during a training spar Micky went off and put Dicky on the ground with punches in rage because everything had always been about Dicky and never about himself at all.
Dicky leaves and goes over to Charlene’s house and talks to her and tells him that Micky doesn’t deserve to be left because he is back and Micky goes onto the championship with Dicky and Charlene. Micky is getting beaten and is almost legless but Dicky gets him jumpin instead or restin during the rounds and tells him to just go head and stomach each punch.
Micky goes out and is on a roll and is going head and stomach punches and it ends in a victory with a coming from behind fight by Micky that was celebrated with Dicky in the ring. This is a great movie and all based on a true story movies are good. The actors were great and Christian Bale did a wonderful job playing Dicky and Mark Wahlberg did a stellar performance of playing Micky in this emotional movie. I loved it completely and rate this movie a 8.5/10 and know those that love these types of movies will feel the same way I do.
